To constitute one as “other”, they must be stripped of their rights and dignities as human beings. This is exactly what is happening to the people of South Bronx. Even though they are not being dominated or despoiled, they are treated like subhumans by the government and other citizens of the country; especially the comparably rich citizens of New York City next to them. The people of South Bronx are stripped of their rights as human beings and treated as the “other” by the rich citizens as a result of the ideology created by the structure and institutions of society.
The general opinion of the rich is that the poor living in South Bronx do not matter. By rich, this does not only refer to people in the top ten percent of wealth, even the middle class are comparably rich and are doing nothing to aid the people of Bronx. Despite being in New York City, one of the richest locations in the world, the people of South Bronx are forced to live in extreme poverty with hunger, illness and death plaguing them. The people of Bronx are being subjected to sin committed by the society. This is done through dehumanization and ghettoization by effectively dumping all the poor and unwanted into one location. Many of them feel powerless and feel like nobodies while some have hope due to religion and finding meaningful interactions for themselves. It is necessary for the world to pay more attention to the people of South Bronx and similar poor regions to help get them out of poverty. Like world hunger, distribution is the issue, the government and the rich are responsible for eclipsing the poor people and turning them into the “other” and it should be the collective responsibility of society to help bring the poor out of
