Ponyboy’s long hair has a symbol, and so does his short hair. Pony’s long hair makes him feel tuff. Pony says “not too short, Johnny please…My hair looked funny, scattered over the floor in tuft.”Ponyboy’s Long hair makes him feel he is going to be a greaser his whole life, and he isn't going to make anything of himself. Pony’s short hair makes him feel nicer and smarter. He helped save the kids in the church when it was burning down, its is helping him think better.
