Questions:
Describe each of the Greasers. Darry: He was particularly strong, and extremely resilient . “Darry is six-feet-two, and broad-shouldered and muscular…….....He’s got eyes that are like two pieces of pale blue-green ice. They’ve got a determined set to them, like the rest of him” (Hinton 6). Darry was the head of the Curtis family. Every since their parents passed away in a car accident, he was the legal guardian of Ponyboy and Soda. So he yelled at them to keep the house in shape, but yelled more to Ponyboy. The gang is important to him because he could protect them from any kind of jumping from the Socs.

Who are the Socs? In the novel “The Outsiders” there are two groups of kids. The ones who live on the west side and the ones who live on the east side. The ones on the west side are called the Socs. They are very wealthy. The group on the east side are the greasers, and they are not wealthy. The Socs would beat up the greasers and sometimes almost kill them. They usually got very drunk and stayed up to jump greasers that were alone, or small. Fortunately, not all Socs are like that. Some Socs can even be really very nice to the greasers that didn’t want to take advantage of them. 3. What is your definition of a hero? To me a hero is someone that puts others before him or her. Someone who risks their life to save other people. Johnny was a hero. He put the kids in the burning church before himself and jumped into that church to save their lives, only to find that he would lose his own. “Johnny shoved me toward the window. ‘Get out!’ I leaped out the window and heard timber crashing down and flames roaring right behind me….Then I heard johnny scream…” (93). In this novel johnny was really a true hero for he had saved many kids …show more content…
How does Ponyboy change? Ponyboy changes from a little boy who didn’t like getting beaten up, to a young man who liked to put others before himself. He saw the world differently and wanted a place where there were no Socs and Greasers just normal kids going about their daily lives. He wanted to get rid of the Socs and the Greasers in the future and have his kids live in peace. He knew that the society didn’t need to beat each other up because they were poor or lived on the east side. He was now someone who understood the world and other people’s lives. 6. Hinton never uses the word “outsiders” in her novel… I think that Hinton is referring to the people who don’t have the problem with the Socs and Greasers, the people who just live normal lives. I think this because when they look in at the Greasers and the Socs it looks just like normal so they don’t see that things aren’t what they should be. They are outsiders because they aren’t one of the people that know what’s going on. I think this was an effective way to choose a title because the person reading the book doesn’t actually know what the word “outsiders” in the title really means. Only the author knows what it means. It also could have different
