He will buy a rifle and Coyotito can go to school. Everyone will have new clothes and a new house will be in their future. Also the baby will be cured of the poison and the evil spirits from the doctor will not be in their way. But Kino thinks this pearl is just going to make his life perfect but such power and wealth can make a greedy man. Throughout the story Kino gets really greedy. It states on page 1 chapter 5, “Her arm was up to throw when he leaped at her and caught her arm and wrenched the pearl from her. He stuck her in the face with his clenched fist and she fell among the boulders, and he kicked her in the side.” Kino let his greed get the best of him. He is so focused on the power of the pearl not what the pearl is causing him to do. This pearl is causing Kino to shy away from his past life. He is getting very greedy and letting this happen is causing evil to happen to him and his family. He eventually became so into the pearl he was becoming violent like what he did to Juanna beating her. During this story Kino truly believes this pearl has lots of meaning. He thinks the pearl is perfect and will bring him a perfect life. He is so focused on the pearl he loses control of everything else going on in his life. This includes noticing the pearl is bringing evil into his village. Also evil is passing through his house and through Kino. It states on page 4 of chapter 5, “It is the pearl, said Juan Tomas There is a devil in this pearl. You should have sold it and passed on the devil. Perhaps you can still sell it and buy peace for yourself.” This is a wakeup call for Kino as he is being told the truth of the pearl. The pearl not only brings evil but brings the demon out of Kino causing harm and danger. This pearl is destroying Kino physically and mentally and he is starting to realize that.
