"Great things come to those who wait." Said Violet Fane 124 years ago and that still can't be anymore true today. This is shown in "The People Could Fly" by Virgina Hamilton, The Diary of Anna Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, and "They did what no one did before" by San Jose Mercury News. All these stories shows that patience is an important virtue, but it also shows that as long as you have patience you will be able to survive anything.
One Place we see this is in "The People Could Fly" By Virgina Hamilton. One day Sarah, a black slave living on a plantation, got whipped one to many times and had fallen to the ground. Toby another black slave living there ran up to her. Sarah said weakly, "I must go soon" (359). As if she had waited for a long time for this, and she had waited long enough. Right now the three families are in the main room of the Annex and the phone is ringing right outside the Annex. Miep, One of the people that are helping the Jewish families hide, hasn’t been to the Annex in for 3 days which is weird for her. The phone keeps going off and everyone is arguing whether or not to go answer the phone, and Mr. Frank says this amazing quote, "If we wait patiently, quietly, I believe that help will come" (430). In the end Mr. Frank is the only one to survive WWII and the Nazi Death Camps. There's one other line in this story that I want to bring attention to and that is, " For two long years we have lived here, side by side. We have managed to live in peace. Are we now going to throw it all away" (425) ? This shows perfectly how patient Mr. Frank is, He waited all ready for two years and he is ready to wait two more years.
