I was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. I attended NYC Public School 77, JHS 127 & Alfred E Smith Technical & Vocational HS. The Glee Club under the direction of Edna Floyd was my first step in to the world of music. It was in elementary school, that I received valuable training in singing as well as music theory and history.…
Before becoming the half man-half rodent vigilante of Brooklyn, New York City that we know of today, Our hero was by the name of Marcus Williams, A normal everyday sewage worker but Marcus did not think that his identity will soon change by a day at his own workplace he will never forget as life as he lives. One day on the job as Marcus arrived at his job his supervisor asked Marcus “Marcus, We heard that there is a pipe leakage at Area M.19 pipe.58 and can I count on you to see what the problem is for us?” Marcus answered yes I can just let me get my leakage gear, torch and pipe welder. “Ok Marcus do what you got to do, hey that’s what we pay you for.” So Marcus hurried with his gear on…
"Followers 88,234." I smile at the ever-growing number it seemed like it was only days ago when the video of me sing Green light by Lorde shot up to over a million likes and only 34 dislikes. I smirked and switch over to YouTube where all of this started.…
In order to be effective, a leader must have an unwavering passion for their projects. I have found through my time with The Pink Bowz, the more excited I become about something, the more excited everyone else becomes. However, when a leader loses enthusiasm for what they are doing, they set a bad example for their peers. I have personally failed as a leader before because I developed apathy towards a project, and my teammates began to adopt the same attitude.…
After Big Sur and spending the night in Pacifica we went further north to San Francisco. When we spent the night in Pacifica our hotel was right near the ocean. It was such a beautiful view to wake up to. I just absolutely love the sound of the ocean. In San Francisco we went over the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a pretty cool thing to see with the views of San Francisco and the ocean. We then went to the park across from the Painted Ladies. The Painted Ladies are the houses that appear in the background of the opening of the original Full House series. It was an awesome thing to go see as I grew up watching Full House and will still watch it from time to time. Once we were done at the park we went to the San Francisco Giants stadium. Although…
It was a casual August afternoon in Minneapolis, people walking the down the sidewalk, strangers passing by. We were visiting my old hometown. I was walking with Beth, and we were messing around. I used to have an inside joke with one of my friends from fifth grade, “Girl you need to chill.” It stuck once I moved. Anyway, Beth had just told me to chill, so, I walked into the nearest cold building. Which of course, ended up being a meat locker… 15 minutes later I was coming out and saw an all too familiar pair of square glasses. Before I could see her face, she turned away. Her bleached tip hair swung across her shoulders. The dark skin, the hair and glasses, it had to be Miracle Brown. This is the girl who was one of my best friends in sixth grade. She started heading down the street, so I told Beth to meet me back at our hotel.…
Each story has a protagonist, the main character, the one that seems to have the attention focused on them. Then there's usually an antagonist, the opposite of the protagonist, the so- called "bad apple" in the family. It seems to be that way with the modern family we see today. "Sonny's Blues" is mainly of an older brother who only wants to see the best for his youngest brother, Sonny. Coming from a middle-class family, things that happen to Sonny aren't what the brother though would come about.…
Pow! Right smack in my forehead crushing my skull. The metal baseball bat knocked in my skull. It was a warm sunny day in the middle of the summer. Joey, my brother, was hitting tennis balls over my house. Little 10 year old me was playing in the yard and my brother purposely pushed me far away so he wouldn’t hit me. Oh how I was a stupid little kid. I was intrigued by what he was doing so I started wandering over to like how not knowing little kids do. As I approached my brother he was so focused on himself that he did not see me. When I finally reached him he had just set up to hit another ball. He hits the ball, but on his back rotation, the bat makes contact with my head. I fell hard on the pavement. Before I went unconscious I heard my…

colonial heroine. People said I am different like my personality and I don’t give up. I am brave no one in my tribe is braver than me. People came to my country and try to take it from us but we wasn’t haven’t so went to watch them and then I ran into one of them and we talked about it and then he went and talked to his people and I went to talk to mine, but that didn’t do anything good. One night everyone was sleep and there wasn’t a sound, but the bugs and a weird sound. I woke up to see what the sound was and it was a spark in the trees it was a fire I woke everyone up so we could get to safety but some did make it R.I.P to those. No one knew what to do some wanted revenge, some was crying, some were scared, we looked at my father and he didn’t express…
Joseph Campbell, a scholar, studied ancient mythology for many years until he developed the Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey is the journey that a hero goes on during his/her adventure. One of my many adventures is a mission trip a couple of years ago. During this journey I left my ordinary safe world, had challenges and tests, and I’ve received mental and physical rewards as a hero does on the Hero’s Journey.…
Thinking back over my life, I remember what I wanted to be when I “grew up”. I didn’t want to be a typical nurse, astronaut, or singer. I wanted to be the Pink Power Ranger. Why I wanted to be a Pink Ranger was quite simple to a second grader. I wanted to save the world, make a difference, and wear a cute pink uniform. Some were supportive in my quest to become the superhero. Others tried to explain to me that the Pink Power Ranger didn’t really exist. I vowed to show them that I would one day be the Pink Ranger. Looking back, maybe I really was right? Maybe I will transform as my very own version of the Pink Power Ranger?…

“Wow! I did not know there were black Americans”. During the month I was in China, I heard this or a variant of it jokily said to me numerous times. I never took offense to it since I understood most of the media from America that came to China featured individuals who did not look like me. Furthermore, for those Americans who had come to China, they were mostly white and had come for business. While in China, I was able to share my experience as an African-American; I always found enjoyment sharing my experiences and it seemed to me those around me found enjoyment learning about a different side of America. With me sharing my experiences, they were being able to understand the diverse nature of the United States.…
Three years later I met James Cox. He was living with his Mother’s Pastor Charles and his wife. We met on the job and became friends. James passed his physical for the fire department and he wanted to go out to celebrate. He took me to a very nice restaurant called Max House. Once we were seated he smile and said thank you for accepting my invitation. I brought you here to show you how much I appreciate you for working the extra hours and allow me to get paid for it. Few people would work another’s shifts and gave them the hours. That was the only way he could go through his training and still keep his pay. I had not minded doing that for him. While we sat in the restaurant he thanked me repeatedly for helping him. Then he told me about his life. He came to New York…
