With selfinterest and freedom the ability for people to live out their lives as they choose is easily done. Yet when it comes to a society as a whole being free and having a laissezfaire economy some of these interests cause tragedy on a large scale. The industrial revolution was born out of this mindset, classical liberal views lead to the Great Depression where the boom bust cycle is taught to be left alone and peoples health is put in jeopardy. Freedom to create your own business and allow it to thrive is one great aspect of a capitalistic society, where the rich get richer and the poor get exploited. Without any laws that restrict the actions that corporations can do, employees can be exploited and given low wages. The industrial revolution was able to grow rapidly according to the lack of restraints against these types of issues. The Chartists were a reactionary group towards the behaviour by the companies, they created petitions and gathered to make propositions to the government about the intolerable conditions they had to work in. This was all able to happen due to the freedom of the companies being capable of abusing their workers, and the selfinterest of the Chartists who simply wanted their work back with controlled, safe, and less abusive working conditions. The Boom/ Bust cycle is a natural occurring matter where there are periods of good economic times, and periods of awful economic times. The Great Depression is an example of an awful time.
