Everybody has a different personality. In Shirley Jackson’s story, “The Possibility of Evil”, is about an old woman named Miss Strangeworth. Miss Strangeworth is a sneaky lady with bad intentions. Miss Strangeworth’s character can be analyzed by considering what she does, what the narrator says about her, and how other characters interact with her.
For instance, “Miss Strangeworth lives in a little town and has forever.” Everyone in the town knows her. Mostly because she was so friendly and greeted everyone so nicely. In addition Miss Strangeworth would say, “And good morning to you, too, Mr. Lewis” and “It is a very nice day,” as she walked down Main Street. Miss Strangeworth would also ask “how they are doing” or ask about their health. But Miss Strangeworth would often make a comment that would come out rude and confuse someone. She didn’t care, she thought it was her job to look after the people of this town. To demonstrate, while Miss Strangeworth was at the post office, delivering the letters, Linda Stewart came towards her crying saying, “I can’t tell you, I just can’t, it’s just nasty.” Miss Strangeworth obviously did something cruel, Linda just won’t tell her.
