“The Pregnancy Project”

“There are always going to be some people in life who disappoint you and don't believe in you like you hoped they would, and you have to find the strength to rise about it and realize that they're wrong. You're still a worthy person whether they thing so or not. If there's no one else to tell it to you, then tell it to yourself.” This is one of the things that Gaby Rodriguez says in the movie ‘The Pregnancy Project’. These are words that everybody can relate to. There are people that we think can support us in any problems or situations that we encounter. But in the movie, I realized that there are people who will left you when they heard something bad or when they find out something not good about a person. In contrary, there are people who will support you and who will always be there for you in any situations or even in the highest and lowest peak of your life.

There is also lot of scenes in the movie that becomes remarkable to me. First, when Gaby proposed a study about teenage pregnancy. She is to brave to proposed and do a study about a problem of many countries, a social issue. I am also surprised when I heard that she will pretend to be pregnant. It is an effort to her just to know how people react on what happened to her and the things that people are going to say.

Second, the way her friends and all the people around her reacted. It made me think, if the entire are also like that. If they are going to be stereotypes also or they will react as if there’s nothing happening in their surrounding? What they are going to do, if they also become teenage parents?

They look at Gaby and treat her as a trash and as if she did not exist. People just look at her belly and gave her a miserable face. For me, it is very humiliating. It is inappropriate to judge a person as if they know everything. It is right to give second chance to those people who have done a big mistake. It is just right to forgive a person until he/she learned something from his/her mistake. As we all know, no one is perfect. Everybody make or do mistakes intentionally or unintentionally.

The last scene, this is the most unforgettable one. It is the scene when Gaby announces in all the people in her school that she is not pregnant, her pregnancy is just fake. I salute Gaby for having the courage to announce her fake pregnancy. It is not easy to face those people who think that Gaby is really pregnant. One should be ashamed if he/she tricked all the people around her but Gaby did it for a good and special purpose.

It is right to give a big round of applause to Gaby after she present her study about the social issue, teenage pregnancy. Gaby let people know how they react and criticize one’s personality when the saw a teenage mom. It is only her that I know who has the guts and courage to do and finish such project. Gaby’s story is about fighting stereotypes, and how one girl found the strength to come out from the shadow of low expectations to forge a bright future for herself.

They were astonished that she was able to endure all the gossip and the rude comments that people would say to her face for nine entire months and yet, not call it off. She was able to get through it. Apparently, the media were also very into it. She thought it was all over, but unfortunately, there were still many challenges to come. Right after Gaby had revealed the news, the media exploded. They were all over her. They were fighting over interviews and special segments with Gaby in them. Gaby was happy that people were impressed by her project, but at the same time pretty overwhelmed with all the attention she was getting.“‘ I'm sorry, Gabby, but we need to re-record your interview,’ the guy said. ‘No, she's mine now,’ said reporter 3. ‘You had your time with her’.‘That's kind of messed up,’ I said. ‘Why can't I just answer a few questions for him and then come back?’ After all, their interview had been very short , and it wouldn't take much time to redo it.” (172). The fact that she was getting so much attention all over again, Gaby was pretty overwhelmed, but she handled it as best as she could. As much as she wanted everyone to know how the way people can act towards you or say about you After Gaby revealed that she faked the pregnancy, most people were happy or proud of her for going through all of this to make an impact, but there were also some people who felt very lied to, like…

Gaby had heard all of the mean things her classmates and family had been saying about her, her boyfriend, and their “baby”.“Jorge will leave her and then she’ll be stuck with a baby and no one else.” (Rodriguez 198). Gaby had to face these terrible messages and the classmates and family members everyday. I think it was great that I got to read what everyone had said about her behind her back. It shows that what you say, even to someone who you don’t think would tell, they will tell someone.…

Gaby Rodriguez’s The Pregnancy Project is a memoir that focuses on the high rate of unexpected teen pregnancies in low income, poverty-ridden areas. Rodriguez’s personal experiences with teen pregnancies through her family inspired her to encourage a change. Her mother and her siblings each became a teen parent, and Rodriguez became a witness to the hardships and struggles faced when teens experience an unintended pregnancy, and struggle to financially support their child(ren), often due to being unable to continue their education. Rodriguez, although many - including her siblings - believe she will make the same mistakes as her family, does not want to be seen as “... just another pregnant teen statistic with no future”…

It's about his flawed belief system. The book made us learn that the past CAN’T be changed, you CAN'T go back in time, you CAN'T alter the fundamentals of social classes simply because you want something, and you CAN'T accomplish anything if you try hard enough. Instead of touching upon this in the movie, they talk about how Gatsby was a hero. How he was amazing and perfect and was simply corrupted by society. How the only reason he died was because of cruel and unjust people. However, the truth is that Gatsby died because of, in addition to cruel and unjust people, his own arrogance. They hardly ever talk about Gatsby's arrogance, and instead paint him as a picture of innocence and perfection. Sure, he was a nice guy, but to say that he is without HEAVY flaws is disingenuous at best. Gatsby was a fool. He was a fool to the ways of society. The movie painted him as a hero that met a very untimely…

Although this rendition of “The Great Gatsby” is noteworthy, Luhrmann included many of the main points but forgot to include the smaller reasons that explained these convoluted messages to the audience. Some critics say this movie “mirrored the novel”, and while this movie did reflect some good ideas and moments from the novel, it seems as if it was mirrored from a carnival mirror since everything is stretched and twisted into an odd new way. 2.5 out of 5…

For my research and message planning assignment, I chose to look further into Planned Parenthood as a non-profit organization. Planned Parenthood is an organization that has been around for over 100 years, as it was founded in October of 1916. Some of the many resources that are offered at these facilities are free or cheap access to women’s reproductive health- including papsmears, mammograms, and STD checks. Other services offered are access to abortion and contraception for all women; this is where the negative perception comes into play. It’s been a long and ongoing battle with separation of church and state, but somehow the the morality issues still play such a damaging role in the perception of what Planned Parenthood is really providing.…

I think that a lot of people feel judged at different times. Even people who are usually judged also judge others. I have been judged a lot. Me and Meghan always used to wear colorful or printed skinny jeans, and people would judge us for it. They would say things like wear normal clothes and things like that.…
