The Princess And The Frog Analysis
Disney produced the movie “The Princess and the Frog”, an adaptation of the classic fairytale “The Frog Prince” and is set in New Orleans, Louisiana during the 1920’s. In the movie Tiana has a dream about owning her own restaurant. She starts of as a waitress, working multiple jobs to help save the money to buy the mill. Lottie gives Tiana enough money to finish paying for the restaurant because she orders food. Naveen arrives with Lawrence and they find the Dr. Facilier, who transforms Lawrence into Naveen and Naveen into a frog. During Lottie’s party the realtors tell Tiana she’s been outbid and Tiana gets dirty while trying to talk to them. Lottie gets her cleaned up and looking like a princess. Tiana finds Prince Naveen in frog form. He begs her to kiss him and turn him human. Once they kiss Tiana gets turned into a frog too. They escape to find someone to change them back to humans. They get advice about Mama Odie, a voodoo woman in the middle of the swamp who can change them back. Naveen starts learning some simple tasks, such as how to dice food. They find Mama Odie who tells them that they should find what they really want but that to become human they must kiss a princess. They get back to New Orleans …show more content…
This can be seen as a push for feminism in the movie because it doesn’t focus on her being because she’s a girl. Also it changes how things are normally executed in fairytales. Some examples include Tiana rescuing Naveen, the princess also being changed into an animal, Prince Naveen being a playboy and they changing into a hard worker, and Mama Odie who says to think about your wishes and if that’s really what you want. These are probably introduced into the movie because Disney is looking to find a prompt that will make people watch and buy the movie. Viewers want to have a role model that will be a good example for small children and make them change themselves for the

    The Faerie Queene Analysis

"Never affirm, always allude: allusions are made to test the spirit and probe the heart" (Umberto Eco). The Faerie Queene consistently alludes to the book of Revelation adding both richness and depth to the story. Revelation played a huge role in the development of this epic being that it was the main book that was referenced from the Bible. The allusions help set up the story, and also add references that most people of that time period can understand. The Bible was the most popular book in the late 16th Century, so to allude to anything else might go unnoticed. Spenser uses the Book of Revelation and the Bible in abundance to add…

The common fairytale portrays the stereotypical “damsel in distress,” who is helpless until her male savior typically rescues her. Many fairytales address the theme of gender roles as well as many others. The female character takes on the feeble, desolate role, while the male character takes on the strong, hero role similar to the stories of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. However, Elizabeth, the protagonist of The Paper Bag Princess defies typical gender roles as a female character and becomes the hero of the story. Cinderella and The Paper Bag Princess share many qualities, but have major differences as well. Cinderella is an example of a woman who occupies traditional, domestic roles, but she does not portray the modern, liberated woman Elizabeth exhibits.…

Did you know that in the Disney version movie of “Sleeping Beauty”, Princess Aurora is there for only sixteen to twenty minutes. Most of the movie was more about how prince Phillip fought a dragon in a lava pit, more than about the princess Aurora who the story was really about. Disney made it seem like Aurora slept gracefully while prince Philip was out fighting evil witches and dragons. A girl should be taught to take up arms on their own and not to wait for some guy in a white horse to save her; girls should not be portrayed as a damsel in distress, but be taught that girls are strong and can be their own hero, that they can do anything if they…

Fairy tales help to establish gender roles at a young age to characterize and represent the ideals, values, and roles that each gender should succumb to. Females are taught to be kind, sweet, week, honest, self-sacrificing, and beautiful. On the other hand, males are taught to be courageous, brave, saviors, and wise. Many of these characteristics are shown in Snow White. However, in lemony Snicket’s, A Bad Beginning, the novel challenges many of these ideas by providing the reader with alternate views to gender roles. This is shown through the main protagonist, Violet.…

Building on the stories of the previous princesses, The Princess and the Frog focuses on the idea of a woman who doesn’t have to be independent yet chooses to be anyway. Tiana is in control of herself financially, holding down multiple paying jobs and being realistic when it comes to buying or owning property. This is a woman making her own choices. Tiana is affected by the story, but she moves herself. Lottie, Tiana’s wealthy best friend, is another important step forward for the depth of Disney characters. Lottie is not merely a spoiled rich girl. While she may be somewhat self-absorbed, she shows moments of kindness and thoughtfulness. Lottie displays from the start the truth that The Princess and the Frog will not be about a perfect person. Each and every character written in this film has both flaws and…

I chose to do my audience analysis on Philippa Gregory’s books The White Princess. The book is a historical fiction book based on the lives of King Henry the 7th and Elizabeth of York. The primary audience for this book is for people who are interesting about the history and the people of the British monarchy. The reason that I believe that this is the primary audience for this book is because most people do not want to learn about Elizabeth of York unless they are interested in her and her life. Another reason that I think that this is the primary audience is because this book follows the history and issues that were going on during that time. People that would want to read this book are people that are interested about the royals back then and what happened in their lives and the issue and threats that they were facing at the time. For example, the book talks about how King Henry the 7th had issues with people pretending to be one Elizabeth’s brothers who were killed in the tower. A few young men came forward during that time and pretended that they were one of the brothers…

While Cinderella’s mother and the Fairy Godmother are not named, her stepmother and stepsisters are and hold many conversation with Cinderella and each other that revolve around numerous things like clothing, chores, nature and kindness. But, people still tend to have a problem with the story, thinking it feminist. In the film, the stepmother and step sisters obsess over their own looks and constantly put down Cinderella, even her name is a mockery. Then there is also the fact that the Prince ‘saves’ her from her life of misfortune and misery. But I don’t think that this is the case. Kenneth Branagh, the director of the film, balances the old with the new. He keeps aspects of the original Walt Disney film while modernising the character of Cinderella. The film focuses on the message that you should be kind to others, even if they are not kind themselves instead of beauty. Cinderella is also shown to be kind, courageous and brave with a unique personality which the Prince fall in love with. Yes, she is beautiful, but the Prince does not fall for her beauty but rather is charm. Also, though the Prince does ’save’ her in a sense, she didn’t really ‘need’ saving and Cinderella does a lot of the ‘saving’…

In a fashion similar to setting, the plot of The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County exemplifies regionalistic qualities better than the plot of The Outcasts of Poker Flat . Although both are effective example of storytelling, Twain demonstrates the idea that “nothing happens” better than Harte. Twain’s entire tale tells nothing but of the time when its narrator gets stuck listening to the infamously talkative Simon Wheeler tell his stories for what seems like forever. Sure these stories carry some action with them, but overall, the main characters of The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County do not demonstrate much action, furthermore demonstrating the plot’s regionalistic, “do-nothing” qualities. On the other hand, The Outcasts…

In fact, one of Walt Disney’s favourite tales was in fact Cinderella, with he can relate to the character with her hard-working nature in hopes that they are rewarded one day for it. Despite the criticism these characters may get, it is usually due to how they are in fact limited to roles that they are given during those times. Which means that as time moves on, the role of a Disney Princess has changed, along with the role of women in animated works in general with much more variety of roles given to them. The later Princesses are a lot more active and take much bigger chances than earlier Princesses, are actually go out and contribute a lot more to plot other than just being there to be rescued. For example, we gave Merida from Pixar’s Brave (2012). Her story is a focused a lot on her and the relationship she has with her mother, and we see how she grows as a character as well as watching her rebel against the typical treats of a Princess. She can be considered the new image of the Disney Princess, but she isn’t the only one or the first to do so. Ariel from The Little Mermaid (1990) is also a lot more curious about the world around her on land and she goes out and explores, and she even at one point makes effort to help and save the…

“Beauty and the Beast” is a classic fairy tale that has been retold through various media such as oral storytelling, written short story, opera, film and musical theatre. With each rendition the story is given a new perspective and a focus on different elements for the reader/audience to consider. In 1946 Jean Cocteau adapted Madame Leprince de Beaumont’s written short story of “Beauty and the Beast” for the film, Beauty and the Beast, starring Jean Marais and Josette Day. Each of these versions offers their own unique approach to the tale and have become classics in their own right. De Beaumont’s story was written so as to have it read and enjoyed by adults and children, whereas Cocteau’s film is aimed primarily at…

Disney princesses always depend on other people to solve their problems. Little girls who watch these movies think they don’t have to do anything for themselves. For example, Cinderella has a fairy godmother to help her go to the ball and meet the prince, the mice make her dress, and get the key from her stepmother to unlock Cinderella from the room upstairs. Then, in Sleeping Beauty the prince comes to save Aurora from her enchantment of sleep and the godfaries raise her in the woods. Also, in Snow White the dwarfs take her into their home and the prince kisses her to save her from the spell she is under. Some may say that these women did in fact need help. They argue that there is no way they could have gotten out of the situation without a little assistance. This is somewhat true, an example being that Snow White and Aurora couldn’t have been awaken from the spell without true love’s kiss. However six year olds don’t have the cognitive development to understand this. A six year old girl would wish for a fairy godmother or a prince to sweep her off her feet, neither of which will happen.…
