Thesis Statement: Drinking and driving is an issue that most seem to ignore and think it doesn’t affect us but what if one day it did? I. Attention A. Maybe you were out with your friends one night having fun drinking at a bar or house party maybe celebrating a birthday or special event such as new years. And you decide to go get a pack of smokes or go grab some food, so you all hop in the car and start heading to the destination. Your friend says I’m fine to drive I haven’t drank a lot. So you trust them and go. B. Of course most of us in here can say that we probably have drank and drove before whether it was a few or more than we should of drank. We are human most think there is nothing wrong with it. C. I believe that if we had more checkpoints than just at the holiday season that people would think twice about it. Also if we could start changing we could show an influence to others. II. Problems. A. Drinking and driving can kill you and innocent people around you. 1. According to an article in the Columbus dispatch issued earlier this year the death rates in Ohio for 2011 were 341. That’s 1/3 of crashes that are alcohol related. 2. In the U.S 413 people were killed last year in drunk driving accidents just around the holiday seasons. 3. Every 52 minutes on average, someone is killed in a drunk driving crash Every 90 seconds, someone is injured. B. If you are caught driving under the influence you will be arrested and taken to jail therefore starting a court record for yourself. 1. According to www.ohioinsurance.org anyone whose caught driving under the influence ,who refuses to take a sobriety test or whose blood alcohol level is over the limit which is 0.10% BAC will have their license taken administratively on the spot, with
