One of the first characters introduced in the book is Reverend Stephen Kumalo, the first problem in the book is that the reverend must go find his son who ran off from their home in Ndotsheni and gone to Johannesburg. Johannesburg is a well-known place for people going and never coming back. And the problem behind all these things, fear. He was robbing people because of peer pressure, and peer pressure is caused by fearing what other people will think. Then it came to his final robbery, Arthur Jarvis, a white man who wanted to fight about his beliefs on segregation, but he never had the chance to. Absalom never had the intention to hurt anyone, but how did he manage to murder someone. He carried around revolver, just to scare people, with no intention to hurt someone. But as he was robbing Arthur’s house, the maid started yelling from Arthur, and out of fear, Absalom shot Arthur and killed
