The Problem of Indonesian National Education
Assalamu’alaikum Wr Wb
Good Morning
Ladies and Gentlemen Let’s thank Allah for His mercy and blessing, so that we can meet here to have this lovely program. Peace be upon our prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companion.
In this delight occasion, I would like to talk about the problem of our national education. I have one big question for you: Have the result of education in Indonesia been satisfactory?
The answer is NOT YET You know, the result of our education is supposed to create students who afraid and get close to Allah or Taqwa and have high quality in mastering science and technology. However, what a pity when we see the reality that the result is nothing except the students mastering in juvenile delinquency, such as: making a date, student fighting, drug abuse, and many others.
Only a few number of them who are serious in their study. We can count by fingers of our friends who are smart and get close to Allah. Then, why does this condition happen?
These problems appear because many kinds of aspects: The first thing is about the educational system in Indonesia. We admit or not, our education tends to imitate the western countries that separate between the religious lesson and the worldly affairs. It is also a pity that the religious lesson only gets a small amount of time in our schedule, only two hours a week.
The second one is that the education today is supposed like a business. The educational staff prefer think how to get the financial profit to think the quality of the output. The teachers have also less responsibility in this problem. Most of the teachers only transfer the science and knowledge, but take a little attention to the spiritual and personality of the students. The other aspect contribute to the problem is that the family and the environment have lack attention to the students. Today, there are many mothers busy working and ignore to the children.
The environments are also permissive to some juvenile delinquency. Dear friend,

In our society today, many students do very poorly in school. But what is the reason for this? In Irving Layton's essay 'The Role of The Teacher' he believes that teachers shouldn't be fully blamed, and that one of main reasons why students do poorly in school are due to the cut backs and poor judgment of the school boards. Also he believes that the society has done their part to help shape our present and current students. Another main factor he discusses about is how the teacher should be teaching the students how to learn, open their minds and prepare for the future. I do agree with agree with Irving Layton, but to a certain extent. The school boards and the society do play a role in the learning process of a student, but I believe that the main factors are the students themselves and the teachers.…

There is a global institution that is labeling millions of people as failures just because they failed to memorize few facts and figures. This institution is our so called “education system”. The very aim of education is now limited to a classroom with a blackboard packed with forty to fifty students with one elderly person dictating them what they should learn. No music, dance, art or games but just an authority of examination is there to test their intelligence. Number of studies done on young children have shown that children before school were very creative and as they continue with their schooling, their creativity is lost. The present education system kills creativity, stifles imagination, and destroys curiosity in children- all in the name of learning. Major technology giants facebook, Apple, Microsoft would not have been there if their creators had not dropped out of formal education. The greatest of all minds-Einstein did not bother to memorize his own address or phone number. India had also seen some of the great personalities- Dhirubhai Ambani who proved that even a common man can become a billionaire, M.S.Subramaniam who made Indian self-reliant on food grains, Pandit Ravi Shankar who is the ambassador of Indian music to the world. Such people are not the products of this education system. Had it done so, there would have been millions in number.…
