The Prolouge-5 Summary Of The Bullies

Prolouge-5: The prologue opens in 1952 with Leo as an old man looking back at the summer of 1900 that he wrote about in a diary he found. The diary is covered with mystical signs of the zodiac. He remembers he had been being bullied for using the word 'vanquished' in his diary at school, and he had made a curse on his main bullies. As if by magic, the two bullies had slipped from the roof of the school and wound up in hospital. Leo had then become a hero in his school. Leo stirs from the diary, and in a dreamlike state, he has a conversation with his twelve-year-old self who accuses him of having wasted his life. We are then introduced to Leo as a boy, on the way to Brandham Hall. Where he will stay for the summer with the Maudsley's family.
There are engravings dedicated to eight Viscount Triminghams. Outside the church, Trimingham introduces himself and Leo realizes that he is the ninth viscount. Before long the pair talk about Marian, and Trimingham asks Leo to take her a message that she had left her prayer book. Marcus's is still sick so Leo has to move to a new room. Leo talks about how his life and outlook has changed, and how his dreams seem to be coming close to reality at the Hall. Now that Marcus is ill, Leo has to play by himself. He has gone on to the farmer's land, to explore while sliding down a haystack he hits his knee on a cutting block cuts his leg. Then Ted Burgess, the farmer arrives angry his attitude completely changes when he realizes Leo is from the hall. He takes Leo to take care of his knee. Leo offers a favor in return for bandaging the wound, Ted agrees. He asks him to take a secret letter to Marian. Leo hands Marian the letter as she checks his knee dressing. Leo feels that he belongs at the Hall. He thinks he has the role as Mercury. Trimingham sends Leo to give Marian a message, and when Leo finds her, the conversation turns to Ted Burgess. Marian asks Leo to take him a return message, on 'business' matters. Leo agrees, happy to be able to help. Message carrying continues, Leo taking several messages between Ted Burgess and Marian. Marcus has recovered from the measles. Leo is intrigued by what the messages could be about. Marian gives Leo a new message to take, but is interrupted as she hands it over, and doesn't have time to seal it. Leo reads the top part and can tell Marian and Ted are in love. Leo feels b upset that Marian and Ted are in love. He takes Marian's latest letter to Ted, but he is determined that it should be the last. When he tells Ted he persuades Leo not to stop delivering notes warning him of how sad that would make Marian. Ted agrees to tell Leo
