The Pros And Cons Of Anime North
It's exciting when comics clash with other forms of art. This weekend, May 26th - Mary 28th, DKN was graciously welcomed to attend Anime North 2017 at the Toronto Congress Center, Canada. This is the 4th largest anime convention in North America. This year, the convention hosted about 17,000 fans. Anime North focuses on manga, anime, and information of Japanese culture. In addition, it's a non-profit fan-run convention. The convention uses the earnings to fundraise for Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital, a hospital dedicated entirely to children up until age 18. In the previous year, they raised over $80,000 for this cause.

Although American comics were not the main focus, the con still created a welcoming atmosphere for all types of fans. The convention carried a wide selection of dealers. My favorite stop in particular in the dealer's room was One Million Comix, located on Toronto's Yonge Street. Mainly because they had wicked sets for Batman action figures, at a very reasonable price (remember, these are Canadian dollars). The dealer's room definitely has great deals every year.

Another exciting DC/Anime related fact is that DC has teamed up with Shiori Teshirogi to write and publish a Japanese manga of the Justice League. Check out our article for more information and the release date.

Both are forms of modern art and storytelling. They are creative, require hard-work, dedication, and strong morals. Thus, it is not surprising that fans overlap. They also inspire each other. The new DC animated films, based on the New 52 character designs, carry multiple expressions and reference to anime-style art. Batman: Year One was another film that used authentic Japanese animated as well. I attend this convention almost yearly, and one of the gorgeous phenomenons at Anime North are the cosplays. Comic books are loved by children, despite the lack of options they have on the market today. Comics aimed for children should be made about them, so they can relate to the story similar to the method used when writing scripts for TV shows and movies. With the electronics on the market today, comic books have to compete for the spot of entertainment in a child’s eyes.…

With so many titles to choose from, this can provide a very daunting task when it actually comes to decide what title and story line to read. Someone can be introduced to this form of popular culture in many different ways. These can range from being handed a comic from a family member or friend, to randomly picking up a comic on a store shelf, or by watching a movie about a certain character/team. In this seminar paper, I will explain how the comic book team the X-Men has been commercialized and advertised to society through the last five decades, how the subculture of the X-men can provide a communication link between people, and also how impactful this fictional team has been on the economy in popular culture today by using different theoretical…

In the past, many countries around the world suffered from similar problems. The rich were getting away with basically anything, and the poor were being taxed to death. This was especially big in France as well as other countries such as Japan. The taxation was mostly prominent in the era of Tokugawa. With all the Daimyos and Samurai, if you were a peasant, life would be incredibly hard to live. This was all changed by the Revolutionary Meiji Restoration.…

One of the most impressive events that I attended was helping autistic children in the Sunny Family to successfully sponsor the arts exhibition. Under the help of AOA art, an autistic arts association, as a community service volunteer, coming to Sunny family to visit those kids every week, was on my schedule list. Discovering that autistic children preferred to grab their brushes with mixed colors and scrabble unconsciously instead of communication, Impressed by the warm and cold color overlapped, my sense was stimulated by not only for the strong colors but also the passion of autistic kids. I discussed with the director of community service director, collected all their paintings, and determined the exhibition location by calling AOA art.…
