During the early developmental years of life children are prone to varies eating habits that have adverse consequences when they are consuming too many of the wrong food groups. These youngsters find themselves eating more, exercising less, constantly tired, bored, and overweight. Many families are frequent fast food diners instead of enjoying a nutritious home cooked meal is a serious concern in our country today. It is convenient for a large amount of parents to make financial provision for their children to buy lunch at school rather than fix a lunch at home. More children live in a two parent household, which means there is less time for the stereotypical parenting duties such as making lunches and cooking dinner. Instead, these expenses are added to their monthly budget. Fast foods and restaurant meals exposes children more calories, higher levels of soaked fats, fat, and flavors that surpass the optional averages for a well life (St-Onge et al., 2003).…
According to his article, “The Battle Against Fast Food Begins In The Home”, the author, columnist and blogger Daniel Weintraub, argues parents, not fast-food companies or the government are responsible for their child's health and well being. Weintraub supports this claim by providing data from the Center For Public Health Advocacy on the subject of overweight schoolchildren, State law recommendations outlining nutritional standards, and his own experience with the problem. Weintraub intends to convince or persuade the parents or parent to accept the blame for their overweight child. From my standpoint, however, it is clear the parents or parent should not be the only ones to blame for the increasing weight problems children were dealing with, and are still currently dealing with today.…

Fundamentally, this academic journal provided vital information on childhood obesity. The linkage between food advertisement and children obesity was concise and conveyed huge issues. Statistics show, that if we can advertise more “healthy” related commercials we can limit obesity challenges. This article is a huge asset to my paper because it exemplifies huge aspects that my paper needs in order to be viable. Fortunately, it allows people to see that there is a chance that it can be changed.…
My assessment: I think "less intrusive interventions" is better idea then removing a child from a family. The last one is an unnecessary action, and may be even damaging for children 's psyche. I don 't defend parents, I also think that parental role is important in children’s obesity issues. I agree that parents should get educated on how to provide healthy nutrition and reasonable activity level for their children. This article would support the idea in my paper that parents are also an important part of society that should be involved in a process of preventing and reducing childhood…
The fast food industry is not the only cause for obesity. One can buy this unhealthy food in abundance at pretty much any store that sells groceries. Even the public school systems provide this food to kids. Spurlock says that “[m]any lower-income kids depend on the federally funded National School Lunch Program for their primary hot meal of the day – and get basically the same high-fat, low-nutrition food dumped on them there as they’d get at a fast food joint” (26). Even though this problem is still prevalent, over the past few years the government has…

CHILDHOOD OBESITY Childhood Obesity, a Growing Concern There are many differences between children today and children 20 years ago. One area that is concerning, not only to researchers and politicians, but parents as well, is the increase in childhood obesity, which is reaching epidemic proportions. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted in 2008, the prevalence of obese children in the 6-11 year age range, alone, increased from 6.5% in 1980 to 19.6% in 2008 (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). Another study conducted by Datamonitor states that 2 out…
Abstract. Childhood obesity has become one of the most common health problems facing children in America. Results from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey reveal that ethnic minority children in the United States are at particular risk for development of cardiovascular disease due to their disproportionate levels of obesity. In treating childhood obesity among ethnic minorities, practitioners need to be mindful of the cultural norms surrounding body size. Additional concerns that must be addressed include the effects of target marketing of unhealthy foods toward ethnic minorities and environmental deterrents to outside physical activities, to name a few. Strategies given to address the problem of childhood obesity among ethnic minorities include, increasing the child's physical activity, reducing television viewing and the adoption and maintenance of healthy lifestyle practices for the entire family.…
The topic that I have chosen for my paper is addressing the issue of childhood obesity. According to Merriam-Webster (2010) obesity is a condition where there is excessive accumulation and storage of fat in the body. I think that childhood obesity is an epidemic that the United States of America is facing as a major issue for children health. Childhood obesity is one of the fastest growing health concerns in the United States. The definition of an epidemic according to Encyclopedia Britannica (2011) is the occurrence of disease that is temporarily of high prevalence.…

According to the United States Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service, they indicated between 2007 and 2012 a majority of cities has increased 50 percent in fast food restaurant outlets. Making life tougher for children to acknowledge a life without fast food. Thankfully, since over the past few years, many have discovered possible solutions to try and prevent or somewhat help those already impacted by obesity with some solutions being more effective than others.…
