of waste (“Factory Farms, Adverse Effects of.”). Another negative effect of these farms is animal cruelty, poultry are not included in the humane slaughter act and can be slaughtered while they are still conscious (“Chickens Used for Food”). Although factory farms have many advantages such as being inexpensive and providing jobs for many people, people should not consume factory farmed poultry of eggs from the poultry because it is cruel to the animals and it is harmful to the environment.
Factory farms release many toxic chemicals into the air and water and cause deforestation, therefor people should not consume factory farmed poultry or their eggs. Factory farms are responsible for over 37% of methane emissions, livestock manure causes 80% of U.S. ammonia emissions, and the synthetic fertilizer used to grow feed for factory farms accounts for 68% of all nitrous oxide. (“Air Quality”) These chemicals not only have an effect on the surrounding environment but they also largely impact the workers of factory farms, 70% of workers have contracted acute bronchitis and 25% have contracted chronic bronchitis. (“Air Quality”) In addition to the effect factory farms have on workers they also have an effect on surrounding communities. Even though these farms largely impact communities most people are not aware of the effects it has on the environment, based on my own research I found that NUMBER% of people thought factory farming didn’t cause any pollution. If more people could be educated on this topic and know its harmful effects of it there could be a possibility of better regulations on pollution these farms put out.
