First off, federalism permits diversity. When local problems happen the local government can personally deal with them. It is safe to say that the national government being run in Washington does not know what is best for the issues happening in local governments. It might seem like there is a lot of different governments running the county, but it would be even worse if the whole country would be governed from one state which would be from Washington D.C. It also fosters conflict management at the local levels. Because of the numerous different state, local and national offices of government, it allows for a great amount of individuals to run for different offices. This also helps diversify the proposed policies and laws that could be implemented. Lastly, even though the enormity of governments throughout the country, and vast differences in them all, it is efficient. Think of the way your own town is governed, and all the laws that are implemented and enforced. If everything had to be finalized through our national government, nothing would ever be
