Throughout history, there have been many mass murders where the weapon used was a gun. “The FBI defines mass murder as four or more victims in a single incident” (Sauer). Nearly one-third of the world’s mass-shootings occurred in the United States. A specific terrible incident happened in 1949, where a man got pushed over the edge, injuring three people and murdering 13 others. His name was Howard Unruh. Late on the night of September 5, he went out to catch a movie with a friend. Unfortunately, he got held up by traffic and when he reached the theater, his friend had already left. Upset and bitter, he stayed at the movies until three in the morning and when he got back home, the front gate to his house had been stolen. This was his final trigger. A study was done and out of 20 mass shootings, about half of the weapons were bought legally. The rest eleven show no evidence of whether or not the weapon was obtained illegally, meaning the guns may have been purchased legally, but no one knows for sure. An example of weak gun control being put in action is the case of Dylann Roof. A series of background checks would have shown that he was “previously admitted to drug possession” (Chalabi). The FBI failed to pay attention to this and Dylann was able to purchase a .45-caliber that “he used to kill nine people in Charleston” (Chalabi). Most of the worst mass violence crimes occurred with guns as the murder weapons. What does this mean? Should guns be eliminated altogether in order to wipe out mass
