Builders create indelible marks on the communities in which they work, creating architectural legacies. Thirty miles north of Mexico City, was the pyramid complex of Teotihuacan in where the various monumental structures contributed to the site’s overall sacredness and iconic design with linkage to its symbolic geographic layout. Its three most significant structures were all situated on a central axis called the Avenue of the Dead (“MYSTIC PLACES: Teotihuacan, Mexico”,n.d.). The Pyramid of the Moon was another architectural display of the power of the gods in the landscape of Teotihuacan. At the north end of the city, it overlooked a plaza, and the Pyramid of the Sun rose beside it (Buck, 2012, p. 71).
From almost anywhere in the city, the pyramid appeared elevated and was completely visible (Pasztory, 1997, p. 95). These architectural features symbolized the fact that the gods were the highest power in Mesoamerican time. Being visible from everywhere in the city reminded the city’s inhabitants of gods having power and control over the universe, and existed everywhere.
