This book has a very good theme but was not written to entertain the mind of a high school teen. The theme of friendship and the theme of telling the truth instead of hiding from it can help you overcome problems with your friend helped me out in life personally. I saw how what someone can see as white lie can produce even worse problems than the problems that would occur for telling the truth. I have been in situations where I could easily get out of a dilemma by lying but it was exceptionally wrong to do so. I thought this story was boring because besides Finny’s death, Finny falling out of the tree, and the “trials” on Gene there wasn’t much action. The writing of Knowles taught me to always do what is right no matter the consequence for it, because there may be greater consequences for not telling the truth.…

I like this passage and overall the last few pages because it expresses Mattie’s feelings of her quest to kill Tom Chaney along with the people that helped her. The tone of this passage is very casual because of Mattie’s personality. The diction is formal, but Mattie uses the word “cowlick”, in reference to LaBeouf’s hair, which could be said to be different than her usual diction. The syntax is also formal. Mattie ends up the story in saying how fast time has gone by. The mood this passage creates is lethargic because Mattie is grown and no longer the fourteen-year-old teenager we have been accustomed to after reading the book. Mattie reminisces on her quest with Rooster and LeBoeuf and she is fulfilled by the death of Tom Chaney. This passage stuck out to me not only because it was the last we hear from Mattie, but in my opinion, ties up the story…

The way Pelzer writes made the novel easy to read and understand. However, his horrific story about his alcoholic mother made it extremely difficult to understand how an human being can be so cruel. Pelzer did an excellent job at expressing his feelings. As I was reading I felt like I was him. I felt his gradual hate for his brothers and his father. His father started off as the boy’s hero. But, Pelzer’s father neglected to do anything about his situation. Just like the author felt, I felt like his father was just as bad as his mother because he let it happen. The raw emotions Pelzer shares is one of the reasons this is such a great novel. Pelzer was honest about his jealously and dislike towards his brothers because not only did they let the torture happen, eventually they got in on it. The brothers also treated the unloved boy as an “it.” The brothers would bring their friends into the bathroom to laugh at the boy while he was submerged into the freezing cold…

This story, in all honesty, did not entertain me or stimulate intriguing thoughts. I felt like the author gave a lot of his time to describe the scene and the appearance of characters that there was nothing really going on. I spent most of my time while reading trying to figure out or thinking what certain things looked like rather than anticipating what may be happening next. Overall this story did not engage me nor hold my interest. I did on the other hand find the way Sammy’s attitude to toward the girls rather baffling because here are these three girls, two of which he mentions are overweight and not on the attractive side, and then “Queenie” whom he points out is too pale but yet in a sense “eye candy”. It was strange how he felt a pull towards them as soon as he noticed them and felt the need to quit his job and become their self proclaimed hero. Was he just as strange or just someone who really needs the attention?…

Cady was homeschooled and previously resided in Africa for 15 years, where her parents pursued the careers as zoologist. On her first day, Cady was introduced to Janis and Damian, the friendly outcasts; furthermore, they warned Cady of the plastics, which was a clique of 3 girls known as Gretchen Wieners, Karen Smith, and their leader Regina George. Next, upon the news of Cady’s new friends, she is asked by Janis to sabotage and destroy the plastics; moreover, Cady agrees to Janis’s plan mainly…
