The Rapture Narrative
“The Rapture. Is that why the Lord hasn’t raised us up in Rapture.” “Yes, I’m sure of it. Instead of ascending to heaven, he wants us to take shelter underground, and survive the end of days. He wants us to bear witness to his power, and prepare the world for the return of Christ when we rise up from the cider mill bunker to reclaim God’s kingdom.” Tears began to stream down Mary’s cheeks. She raised her hands to the heavens and began turning in circles. The first drops of rain from the leading bands of the hurricane began to lash the castle. The winds picked up and rumbles of thunder echoed over Sleeping Giant. “There’s one more thing, Mary,” William said, grabbing Mary by the shoulders to stop her from spinning. William stared into Mary’s …show more content…
The names included James, Susan and Catherine, Reverend Flowers, the doctor, Crocco and his wife, Eric and his parents, Annaliese and her parents, baby Edward, the couple caring for baby Edward, and the two children belonging to the couple who cared for baby Edward. Mary stared at the list. William braced himself for Mary’s anger. On any normal day, the prospect of saving Tabitha’s grandchild and the boy who Susan loved would stoke Mary’s ire. “Do you think he’s the one?” Mary asked. “Who?” “The grandchild of Edward Birch? Do you think he is the Messiah?” “We will have two infants to care for,” William said. “Both infants conceived in wrath, baby Edward and Susan’s child.” “The Lord works in mysterious ways,” Mary said. “It is not our place to question the Lord.” Mary walked down the hallway back towards the Gator parked at the bottom of the castle. William paused for a minute before following Mary. Mary’s Evangelical fervor had rubbed off on him. He stared at the menacing clouds preparing to lay siege to Sleeping Giant. William wondered; when the time came to rise from the embrace of the earth, would he bring forth the Messiah, the anti-Christ, or

Explaining that when Jesus dies all of man’s sin will be washed away, and only after he has risen that man can truly see that God has a plan for all of his people to return to the glory of his…

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 2 He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; 3 and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while. 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.…

The author uses literary devices to tell the story of an encounter with God, makes for an unique story. Furthermore, the author chose to portray God as a round and realistic character who emits humanlike emotion, this lightens up the story and shifts the focus to Martha, a dynamic character who develops into a relationship with a figure that was first regarded as such a distant figure from her. For example, when Martha first saw God, she described him with awe, “The comfort of her small disorderly house was gone, and she was standing before this amazing figure who had convinced her at one that he was God-or someone so powerful that he might as well be God,” (190, Butler). Before separating with God, Martha had a completely different description of him, “she stepped to God and hugged her--hugged her hard, feeling the familiar woman’s body beneath the blue jeans and black T-shirt that looked as though it had come from Martha’s own closet,” (212, Butler). This shows that not only has God’s appearance and gender changed, but Martha’s interactions with God were also drastically different. Another example of the developing relation between God and Martha is that God used to be high up in his throne, “seated as he was on his huge throne like chair,” (190, Butler), and both physically and spiritually came down to earth as if as a guest in Martha’s…

The Rapture of the church is not to be confused with the Second Coming of Jesus. Let's review real quickly here the viewpoint of a Pre-Tribulation rapture. The Second Coming will be when Jesus returns to the Earth to defeat the antichrist, and to establish the Millennial Kingdom. The Second Coming of Jesus will occur after the Great Tribulation, as seen in Revelation chapters 6-9. The Second Coming is for the removal of the unbelievers, and it will be visible to everyone, unlike the Rapture, which will be secret, and instantaneous. Several end time events have to take place before the Second Coming occurs. Biblical prophecies serve to remind us to always be spiritually ready. At the Rapture, believers will meet Jesus in the air, and there…

The gyre, a circular or conical shape, appears frequently in Yeats’ poems and was developed as part of a philosophical system outlined in his book, A Vision, as a model to articulates his belief that history was structures in terms of ages. He chose the image of the gyre to symbolize his philosophical belief that all things could be described in terms of cycles and patterns. The soul (or civilization, the age and so on) would move from the smallest point of the spiral to the largest before moving along to the next gyre. This image makes sense (despite it’s abstractness) when applied to the waxing and waning of a particular historical age or the evolution of a human life for youth to adulthood to old age. The symbol of the interlocking gyres reveals Yeats belief in fate and historical determinism as well as his spiritual attitudes towards the development of the souk, since creatures and events must evolve according to the conical shape. So, it becomes a shorthand reference that stands for Yeats entire philosophy of history and spiritually. Yeats saw history in symbolic and mystical terms. This is the man who, with his wife, practiced automatic writing, who believed the dead spoke through the living. It isn’t necessary to understand his occultism to understand his poetry well, but Yeats said that the voices he communicated with on the other side gave him ‘metaphors for poetry’ and ‘stylistic arrangements of understanding individual psychology and historical event.’ And this is what you need to understand.…
