The Raven Figurative Language
Raven naturally does not have a accent of any kind. Although, they will pronounce words differently from other people due to the fact that their mother who had a accent, they would pick up words from her along their mother's pronunciation of the word. They tend to have a silvery [ gentle, clear, melodious ] voice that they use to lull people into doing what they want. When they are tired, lazy or bored their voice will take on a monotone quality which is heavily laced with sarcasm but then again their voice alaws seems to carry a tone of sarcasm. If there was a person who loved swearing more than anything else it would be Raven. They just tend to do it around their brother and friends who are used to their constant swearing.

Maloney uses language techniques, such as imagery, characterisation, symbolism, themes and figurative language. This entices the reader into, positions them to feel and think ways about the characters and is given to inform the reader about the character. In ABTWC Maloney has used unconditional love to express the characters inner thoughts. He uses this to meticulously craft abstruse themes and characterisations. Poe use's private thoughts, action, personification and symbolism to create the theme. According to paragraph number 11, it states "I could bear those hypocritical smiles no longer! I felt that I must scream or die!...". In other words, the narrator felt the agony that was being placed on him by the noises he was hearing. Another example of an indirect characterization is action.…

“Don’t blame me when he gauges your eyes out” said Jem when introducing the Radley house to Dill. This shows how the town is scared of the Radley family although they don’t know much about them. This is important because without the Radley mystery half of the book wouldn’t have been written. It also shows many different types of rhetorical devices and figurative language.…

    Raven Baxter Biography

The name “Raven Baxter” is without a doubt a part of my childhood memories. Portrayed by actress Raven-Symoné, Raven Baxter, star of Disney Channel’s TV show “That’s So Raven,” was the fashionista just trying to make it through high school whom I used as a guide for what my 17-year-old self might face one day. With her dynamic duo of best friends Eddie and Chelsea, her money-loving younger brother Cory, and her funny and sweet parents Victor and Tanya, it is no surprise that Raven was such a memorable character—not to mention the fact that she was sidekick.…

    Diction In The Raven

Poe utilizes the raven as a means of placing a dark tone on his poem when the narrator asks if “[he] shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore-/ Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore” (94-95). The raven responds with “‘Nevermore’” (96). The widower questions the raven if he will ever get the chance to hold his wife again, and the raven replies that he will not, showing Poe’s tone of despair and misery. On the other hand, Poe creates a hopeful tone in “Annabel Lee” when, at the end of the poem, the narrator says, “And neither the angels in Heaven above/ Nor the demons down under the sea/ Can ever dissever my soul from the soul/ Of the beautiful Annabel Lee” (30-33). Declaring that even death cannot tear him and his love apart, the narrator believes that their souls will forever be together, no matter if she is in Heaven or Hell. This is much unlike “The Raven” in which the widower learns that he will never see his wife again. Poe’s tone in “Annabel Lee” provides a more peaceful atmosphere regarding the death of a loved one than that of “The Raven”. Both poems illustrate the ambiguities and uncertainties that that surround the death of a loved one and offer reactions to such…

The more I focused on my accent, the more I hated the way it sounded. Deep down in me I hoped I could train my accent away. For months I would watch movies and national geographic documentaries to mimic the accents of the actors and narrators. My parents thought it was a little strange but didn’t seem too worried. Soon I was getting better and it became fun to learn the rules that distinguish accents and pretty soon I was learning to mimic a few others besides…

    Symbolism In The Raven

One literary device in the poem is symbolism. Symbolism is the practice of using a word to represent an idea. There are several symbols in the poem “The Raven”, but the main symbol is the raven itself. The Raven symbolizes the man’s memories of his wife, Lenore. The bird stands as a memory of his loneliness and misery. When the bird said “nevermore” it was more effective than the human saying it. The raven represents evil and death.…

Raven is treated as an outsider because of his disability. All his life, Raven has been an outcast. He has never had the opportunity to be accepted for who he is. Growing up as an orphan in Torcurra, the villagers began to accuse him of being filled with demons because of his strange behavioural outbursts. Father Brannan attempts to care for him, but whenever he isn’t around, the villagers try to beat the apparent ‘evil spirits’ out of Raven. They are completely unaware that the reason Raven acts the way he does is because he is actually deaf. The villagers have always ostracised Raven because of the deceptive lies they believe; that he is filled with demons, rather than suffering with a mere disability.…
