Narrator: The Reeve tells of a Miller known around the town of Trumpington for being a thief and constantly cheating people out of their money and possessions, especially those from the nearby college. The Miller was an ugly man with a chubby face, flat nose, messy hair, and large body. Despite this, he was married with two children. The Miller’s oldest daughter 20 years old at the time, was beautiful and arranged to marry a man with a noble status in the community. The second child was only a baby. The Miller was extremely protective over his wife and children. The steward at the nearby college falls ill and the Miller finds it easier to steal a lot at once.
