Patriarchal education is a system whereby men are in authority over women in all aspects of the society. This practise is no more followed in the society however, in some Pacific island countries it may be still practised. Men are often the established gender of authority and exhibit control in all situations. Patriarchal system includes main dominance where men make all decisions, have power and authority and are considered superior to women and women are supposed to be followers where men are leaders. “A good wife is supposed to realize that domestic violence stays in the private sphere as a secret, and is not to be discussed in public” (Yulina, 1993) It also comprises of male identification. Men are concerned with identification that includes quality of control, strength, forcefulness, rationality, strong work ethics and competiveness. In a patriarchal system the centre of activity and progression is on men and what they do to move the society forward. Males that have been through patriarchal education are obsessed with control and would want to be in control at all times. Women are oppressed in this system as they are not supposed to make decisions or have a say at homes or in leadership areas. Women are also not allowed to be independent in this system.
