The Relationship Between The Biological And The Social Construction Of Health
Health is defined as the absence of illness and disease in people’s daily life (Press, n.d.) . It is a natural depiction of our bodies, and we considered ourselves ill when something is not right. There two ways on how we perceived health and illness, the biological and the sociological construction. Biological structure of our health examines our bodies through biomedical representation of health, exercised by medical specialist in diagnosing and treating diseases. Illness and disease that are diagnosed can be treated by the usage of medicines, rehabilitations, such as physical therapy, or by surgery. Equally, the material scarcity acts an essential role in the cause of disease. The reason would be, that the poor have no knowledge of accessing the services for health or refused of the services he needs. Necessity like clean water, quality accommodation and enough food can promote better health for the person. It is known that a person working in a stressful job are more likely to get sick and studies showed in the BBC documentary (Horizon | Death of the Working Classes, 1988) that working class people have a higher mortality rate compared to other classes. Since they are living in vastly populated and industrialised areas, spread of diseases is highly common. Offering health education to people would lead to better health, if people can understand how living an unhealthy lifestyle can lead to illness and disease then this might make them change to a healthy …show more content…
On the other hand, there are societies that believe in supernatural phenomena as the cause of illness and advocate prayer or spiritual intercession to bring back the favor of mighty forces. Like Spain, fatalistic views are shared by many Hispanic patients who perceived illness as God’s will or punishment brought about by immoral behavior. Some of the hispanic patients chooses to use home remedies and will consult a faith
