In this film there are shown two sides of the American Revolution. The Americans and the Britishers had equally contributed to the American Revolution. My understanding of the American Revolution was limited to the disturbance created by the British troops, but after viewing this film my understanding has extended to believe that colonists had triggered these reactions from British Parliament. The Stamp Act, a decision made by British Parliament, was to impose taxes on the colonies in order to gain more money, because England was in need for it. The Americans viewed this as British Parliament obtaining their power over American’s liberty (“Boston, Bloody Boston: The Revolution”). My understanding of American revolution was limited to the Boston…

Once the Declaration of Independence was created the colonies immediately split in to two groups, Patriots and Loyalist. Loyalists made up 30% to 50% of the population in the colonies. This percentage was made up of farmers, poor settlers, rich merchants, and immigrants who trusted the British government would still protect them. In Brave Enemies, this is shown through brief occurrences of Patriots torturing, raping, burning, hanging, and humiliating Loyalists. The Loyalists did the same to the Patriots. One scene in Brave Enemies shows a group of men covering an old woman in hot tar and dumping feathers on her and letting her run back to her home.…

Aside from their differences, the Loyalists and the Patriots shared many similarities with one another. Both the Loyalists and the Patriots were culturally identical due to the fact that the majority of the colonists shared the same language, heritage, customs and religion. Both factions were descendants from similar socio-economic groups that came from Europe with aspirations to wield freedoms that were not previously allotted to them. During the war, African Americans who were slaves joined both groups because of the promise of freedom in exchange of military service. In addition, both the Loyalists and the Patriots were grateful for the land that they owned and enjoyed the same colonial rights.
