Redbox is a DVD/Blu-Ray rental company which utilizes kiosk machines placed in convenient, high-traffic locations. The first Redbox kiosk was opened by McDonald’s in 2002. Redbox was later purchased by Coinstar, Inc., and over the years, Redbox has rented over one billion movies and has grown to more than 27,000 locations in restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies and convenience stores nationwide. Redbox proves to be a very unique way to rent DVD’s and by the nature of Redbox’s rental process, most businesses would benefit from the increased traffic generated by having a kiosk machine at their location. This type of relationship proves to be a win-win situation for both Redbox and the businesses which are housing the kiosk machine.…

    POLS 201 The Constitution

The Constitution of the United States has always been known as the lifeblood of our government and the rights of the people. This historical document was not always in place however. Before this “living document” and basis for United States rights and laws was formed there was the Articles of Confederation. Signed in 1777 by the original 13 colonies as a means of establishing the United States of American and served as our new founded countries first constitution. This document however, “did not provide the centralizing force necessary for unity among the new states and were soon found to be so fundamentally weak that a different political structure was vital.” (Breckenridge pg.19) Congress authorized a Constitutional Convention to revise the Articles in February of 1787. In the months that followed the delegates assembled and addressed the concerns within our fledgling nation. This was the beginning of our Constitution of the United States.…

To explain why congress passed the Voting Rights act, we must look into the “darker time” that Lyndon B Johnson talked about. The “darker times” are every year post the Voting Rights Acts, and consist of oppression and racism at every turn. Let us start at the very broad view of what was going on in america, segregation was at every city, park, alley, and school. Narrowing this down some, there were even Jim Crow laws in the south, that made it legal to treat African americans differently. Even at the poles, we had an abundance of racism, with grandfather clauses, Literacy tests, and poll taxes. Before the Voting Rights Act African americans were treated as secondary citizens. Congress wanted to change how we thought, so we didn’t keep thinking…

Infidelity is a sickness that can ruin relationships and tear families apart since it is a betrayal of the love that a husband entrusts in his wife and vice versa. In both fictional plays, Fences by August Wilson and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, infidelity is a clearly evident theme as both of the protagonists, Willy and Troy, betray their wives and have relations with other woman. Both men have a sense that what they are doing is wrong, but both continue to do so anyway. The major difference between the two men is the manner in which they conduct themselves while being unfaithful. Willy Loman is discreet and tries to hide his affair from his wife, Linda. While Troy, on the other hand, is much more open about the idea, even telling his wife he was going to be bringing home a new baby from the other woman. In both plays, infidelity affects not only the two men, but their family, as well; as it breaks the already fragile bonds they have with their family and ultimately…

When the Founding Fathers began designing America’s government in 1787, one of their greatest fears was the possibility of the dumb majority using their power to pass uneducated and disastrous legislature. They feared “the mob”, the everyday citizens that had little schooling and knew almost nothing about politics. To avoid giving the voters too much power, a Representative-Democracy style government was created, a system where citizens would vote for a person or group to represent them in making legislature. Referendum votes bypass the politicians and ask for the people’s opinion directly- they are direct votes where the entire country is invited to vote on an issue, which give the people a chance for their voices to be heard. While a good…

    Voting Right Act 1965

The Voting Right Act in 1965 can easily be seen as a massive victory and step in the right direction for equality. I had always thought the Voting Right Act was the end of it. Until recently I had no idea some states had lacked the ability to make or change laws that concerned voting. I was under the assumption that everyone was equal and had the same rights. I was in complete disbelief when I learned that most of the southern states did not have the ability to change laws for fear they might enforce a law that may discriminate. While it saddens me to see that most of the south had to function under watchful eyes, I can clearly see why. However, not everything is always black and white, there are undoubtedly some grey areas…

Some common reasons that come to mind without pondering a lot are: health issues of voters; which might bar them from exercising vote with a perception that no election is important than their health. Although a passion is seen amongst certain invalids; who are often carried to polling booth by their family on back ; a majority skips the same; especially ones living in metropolitans. They consider carrying their sick and bedridden family members to polling booth as a burden . Another major reason could be male chauvinistic attitude of Indian men ; who always underestimate thoughts and actions of their women. They especially prefer confining their women within the home on polling day. This is the one major reason of fewer number of female voters as compared to males; particularly in villages and small towns.…
