The Reverse of Disorder in Cruel Intentions
The Reverse of Disorder in Cruel Intentions
Sex, revenge, manipulation, seduction, and love are the table turners in the teenage drama “Cruel Intentions”. The movie is a present day version of the classic ``Dangerous Liaisons'' in which Kathryn and Sebastian, two wealthy, manipulative teenage step-siblings from Manhattan's upper-side, conspire to ruin the lives of the individuals around them. The elements of danger are high when the twosome agrees to take part in a gamble of sexual corruptions. The participants of this cruel game? The naive Celcile Caldwell and the untouched Annette Hargrove. Celcile is unknowingly part of this gamble after Kathryn is left by Court Reynolds for the immature teen. In order to get even, Kathryn challenges Sebastian to ruin Celcile by demoralizing her and turning her into a slut. It’s true that the non-forgiving duo, Sebastian and Kathryn, make it their lives to play with people in their web of lust, but is there some way that drastic change can be acquired by either the two? Is it possible for the lustful Sebastian to have unimaginable feelings for someone else instead of playing with their hearts and minds? In this film, Sebastian will inevitably be brought down to his knees by the kindness of an unexpected girl. This girl, Annette, reminds him that it’s ok to laugh and love is something meaningful to be enjoyed. How is it possible for such a cruel-hearted person to be granted access to something as pure as love? Well, through the actions of the innocent Annette, Sebastian is able to achieve the impossible, love.
Sebastian has pretty much been with the majority of the girls in New York City and he no longer sees a challenge. He sets his sights on a greater challenge, the new headmaster's daughter, Annette, who recently wrote an article in Seventeen Magazine about how she plans to stay a virgin until she marries her boyfriend. Even though this challenge seems to be of little challenge, he takes the offer. Sebastian bets Kathryn

While there are many risks that are involved with any product launch of a company, there are also many opportunities to seize. Cole and Parker’s business idea is a solid foundation to market to their target market. The biggest opportunity that would need to be identified as their trademark is “Cole and Parker: Socks that Start Businesses” since there isn’t another sock company that would aid entrepreneurs to start their own business. This is the key driver in selling their product and gaining market share over other rivals. The psychodynamic approach states that abnormality is caused by our libido (sexual desires) and our thantos (aggressive desires), these are our id desires. The id is an irrational part of our personality and demands satisfaction and is ruled by the pleasure principle. The ego is a conscious part of the personality, as a child interacts with the world and the constraints of reality. It is therefore governed by the reality principle. The superego embodies our conscious sense of right and wrong. The id, ego and superego work together, for example, if there was some money on a table with a person sat at the table with it, your id desire would be to just go over and take the money. Then your ego would step in and realise the constraints of reality and tell you to wait until no one is looking and then take the money. However, your superego would then step in and tell you that it is wrong to steal and you shouldn’t do it and that your parents taught you not to steal. Abnormality stems from an imbalance in these three things, for example, anxiety disorders can be caused by an over developed superego.…

In One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the author Ken Kesey, portrays sanity versus insanity, and maybe most predominantly, who gets to determine what qualifies as sane versus insane. The ward’s mentally ill patients happen to be the “different” people in society, which is why they are institutionalized. Chief Bromden considers this social economic society as “the combine” because it reminds him of a huge machine. Chief Bromden thinks that the combine is going to turn into a dehumanized society where people act like robots and do not think for themselves. The people who do not conform to this dehumanized society end up in the ward. It is "a factory for the Combine. It's for fixing up mistakes made in the neighborhoods and in the schools and in the churches..."(Kesey 40). The combine is a made up establishment that portrays how society was during the 1950’s.…

The film gives an ironic sense of violence. It has its share of gun slinging but it is portrayed to be necessary in the makings of a hero. For example, the use of violence that Charlie displays is viewed as positive when used against evil forces that are threatening the community. Charlie’s professional background in the field of violence suggest that he is a cold blooded killer but his use of violence and skills elevate him to hero status. In addition to the unlikely “heroes,” the film gives the characters un-Western characteristics. Classic Westerns rarely have characters that profess their love when they are up against a force where the outcome is uncertain. The “hero” needs to be alone; he cannot risk love getting in the way of a man’s duty. However, Charlie confesses to Sue that he has feelings for her.…

David Rosenhan is known for the classic, yet controversial study “On Being Sane in Insane Places” of progress within the mental health field. Rosenhan’s study (1973) of eight people with no previous history of mental illness were admitted at various mental hospitals in America and complained of individual symptoms (auditory illusions, e.g., ‘thud’). He investigated whether psychiatrists could distinguish between those genuinely mentally ill and not. Each pseudopatient behaved normally, and symptoms were not re-reported. However, the average length of hospitalisation was 19 days. This shows context has a powerful role in determining how behaviour is labelled. This led to question the truth in psychiatric diagnoses. The predominant issue was unauthorised diagnoses and needless treatments for a fictional mental illness tolerably accepted. Today, it is the difficulty in gaining treatment for real symptoms of mental disorders.…

In contemporary society the public believe that life is approached in a free-for-all attitude however social order and disorder govern are initial motives of ‘uniformity’ so in this assignment I will seek to compare and contrast disorderly behaviour through examining, ‘How is society made and disorder connected in social life’, through the theory of the Buchanan Report and the mass media. I will also evaluate how and why the intervention of Anti Social Behaviour (ASBO) promote the aspect of repairing and making social order is wrongly applied, and how the London Transport for London (TFL) is an entity of making and repairing social order. I will also examine the question, ‘who gets to decide what is order and what is disorder?’. This will be compared and contrasted through the theories of Erving Goffman and Micheal Foucault who are two social scientists attempting to give an explanation to how order is created in society and where it originated from.…

The mental and emotional unity between the patients in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, shows an important aspect of relationships and community through the terrible life of discrimination and abuse. Despite the treatment in mental institutions, the bond between the patients perseveres. When McMurphy came to the ward for the first time, he said to the Acutes, “...we got lots of time, lots of games ahead of us. I like to use my deck here because it takes at least a week for the other players to get to where they can even see the suit”(Kesey 10). Creating a bond from the very beginning of an introduction imminently helps the relationship grow with ease. Friendships enrich lives no matter if there is a mental illness involved or not and they also…
