For example most christian catholics use it when they are praying they hold it in their hands and believe it brings them one step closer to god and helps clear their sins. As we can see the Mariner had committed a major sin by killing one of God's creation which was the Albatross that was like a companion the the Mariner and his crew when they felt most sad and alone in the middle of nowhere. Now for the penance of the mariner as we can see he had to go around warning people of the drastic consequences that could happen when one commits the sin of killing one of God’s harmless creations. But a lot of people might argue against it since they think why keep holding on to this life since it’s only temporary and if you’re in such an agony why keep fighting to just keep suffering. “Water, Water, everywhere, Nor any drop to drink” I think at this point the Mariner felt like so much of what I need to keep living but what good is it had been ruined by the salt and all it’s gonna do is kill me faster. “ O happy, living things! No tongue Their beauty might declare A spring of love gushed from my heart, And I blessed them unaware: Sure my kind saint took pity on me, And I blessed them unaware The selfsame moment I could pray: And from my
