Being able to tackle what has been handed to you in life, the good, and the bad is a key concept to growing. When you have reached a point in life where you can stare the problem right in the face and accept the challenge is a part of growing up. It means you understand sometimes in life you have
things you are either scared of or do not want to do, yet you do it anyway. That is a significant sign of growing up. Therefore in “The river Merchant’s wife: A letter”, she shows a huge amount of maturity in the sense that although in the beginning she seems unsure and almost uncomfortable with her situation.Yet with the progression of time and maturity she realizes what she is handed and is mature with the situation and does not run or shy away from it. She accepts the challenge reluctantly and realizes she does love this guy and want him in her life.
Although being comfortable with situations thrown at you is similar to accepting responsibility, there is also a lot that makes them very different.Accepting responsibility for choices made, means you matured not only at first to face challenges thrown at you but also in the sense where you accept what you have done whether you are in the right or wrong after you are handed the situation. Not blaming others or running away, owning up to what you have done are all signs of growing up and maturing. This applies to “The River Merchant’s wife: A letter”in the sense that she owned up to the choices she made and did not give up and throw in the towel. She faced the backlash of her choices and ended up as she now loved and wanted him and missed him.
Although there are many things that can be classified as growing up, handling what life gives you and accepting responsibility for choices made, are two examples found in “The river Merchant’s wife:A letter”.
