Yucca Mountain. Just a mountain you may think, but not just any mountain. A mountain that our Congressmen decided would be a great repository storage facility for spent nuclear reactor fuel and other radioactive waste. 196 billion dollars were spent towards this project. Back in 1987, this project was the ideal project to store radioactive waste. As the 1990’s and 2000’s crept in, Nevada’s residents were against this idea big time. Funding for the Yucca Mountain Repository was discontinued by Congress in February 2010. I disagree with this discontinuation.…

The predominant type of rock in Rocky Mountain National Park is granite, which is an igneous rock. There are two types of granite present in the park; Pikes Peak granite and silver plume granite. Pikes Peak granite is easily identified by its salmon pink color, created by an abundance of orthoclase feldspar. There are also whitish clear quartz crystals and pieces of dark, flaky, shiny mica. Rocky Mountain National Park is a park in Boulder, Colorado that was formed about 1.6 to 1.7 billion years ago from the collision of the North American plate and the Pacific Plate. Within Rocky Mountain National Park there are many other geologic features such as majestic mountain views, a variety of wildlife, varied climates and environments. The area occupied by the park has been repeatedly uplifted and eroded. Although many of its mountaintops have been flattened by ancient erosion, recent glaciation has left steep scars, U-shaped valleys, lakes, and moraine deposits. In the book, Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder, Paul Farmer made and continues to make a profound difference in the world. He was extremely successful because of the help he received from people who surrounded him. Partners In Health (PIH), Farmer’s organization, gives healthcare to people who cannot afford it and treatment to those with tuberculosis and AIDS. Although he was a founding advocate to the success of Partners In Health, Farmer would not have accomplished all that he did without the aid from others. Usually, it takes a group of people with the same goals in order to make a change in the world. Not everyone in the world can drop his/her entire life and put as much effort into saving the world as Paul Farmer did. However, he had many dedicated people who helped him. Without Ophelia Dahl, Tom White, and Jim Yong Kim, Paul Farmer would not have been nearly as successful as he is today.…
