Many of the pollutants react with solar energy and water to produce secondary pollutants, for example sulfur dioxide and water form sulfuric acid.…
Describe realistic strategies that Canadians could take to reduce their negative impact on land, water and the atmosphere.…
Alberta is responsible for one-third of Canada’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHGs). Specifically, the oil sands are Canada’s largest-growing source of GHGs, and these emissions are expected to increase substantially in the future.…
For the past five decades, Windsor's air quality has been considered the worst in all of Canada. In 2016, Windsor was at low risk with a three in the air quality health index. This air quality has developed over the centuries and has gotten worse as the years have progressed. There are many factors that have led to Windsor's dreadful air quality, some if these factors include transportation fumes, local industrial pollution, and the inconvenience of sharing a border with an overly polluted country. One major factor that greatly pollutes the air is transportation fumes.…
Canada need to completely get rid of the use of Coal Burning Power Plants. Although coal has been known to be efficient and inexpensive there are to many drawbacks continuing use coal. Coal is very bad for the environment because it causes an immense amount of atmospheric pollution. Coal produces carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas and when it is released into the air it dramatically changes the climate. For every one tonne of coal the power plants produce it releases four tonnes of carbon dioxide. Canada has many other options to create energy and it doesn’t need coal as one of them. The releasing of carbon dioxide is the main reason for global warming so if Canada can cut it out completely Canada will be making the environment cleaner. It is not just carbon dioxide in coal that is bad for the environment. The oxidization sulphur and nitrogen can cause acid rain and lead and mercury is extremely bad for our health. The carbon is not the problem it is the burning of carbon that causes all these problems. There are solutions to the problem, but scientists are in the very early stages of finding solutions as they have not figured out how to prevent it infecting under the ground. People are trying to trap the carbon dioxide and liquify it to dispose of it properly. Since Canada is trying to be more environmentally friendly they two new coal plants they built in British Columbia is a waste of money since Canadians have projected to use 6.5 times more of wind energy then before. The increases usage of wind and nuclear energy are good things for Canada because they are environmentally friendly and don’t have many restrictions on where they can be. This is taking a step in the right direction for Canada and if they can ban the use of coal burning power plants it would be even…
Today, Canadians have to face many issues that affect not only the environment, but also our health and well being. The environment has an important effect on a person’s health. Each year millions of people become ill and disabled because of environment contaminants. This costs billions of dollars every year in terms of healthcare expenses and lost productivity. So, protecting the environment and promoting health and safety are the key challenges faced by the society. The environment is now recognized as the critical determinant of Health. Positive environment factors promote and sustain Health while negative environmental factors are threat to health. This report discusses the major environmental issues and causes that are reason for various health related problems among Canadians.…
•The creation of wind energy is "clean". Unlike the use of coal or oil, generating energy from the wind doesn't produce pollutants or require any harmful chemicals.…
On the environmental aspect, wind energy does not contribute to pollution as almost no waste materials that contribute to pollution are produced by the usage of wind power (Wright, 2005). For example, in the States, wind plants compensate the emission of than 2.5 billion pounds of carbon dioxide and 15 million pounds of other pollutants (Nash, 2008). This shows that wind power is an eco-friendly renewable energy resource as it does not contribute to pollution.…
The average temperature of the earth's surface is rising. According to the Natural Resources Canada: Overview of Climate Change in Canada, “the influence of anthropogenic climate change on Canada is evident in observed trends and temperatures simulated by global climate models” (Government of Canada), which can have devastated impacts on humans (e.g. humans can die of heat stroke). The summer issue of Statistics Canada's EnviroStats (2011) has a nation-wide survey on air conditioning. Surveys demonstrate that half of all Canadian homes have some form of air conditioning, but usage varies regionally. Ontario is the only province where electricity demand peaks in the summer. Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are also big users, reflecting…
China has a booming vehicle market that attracts drivers. Louise Watt, a writer for The Huffington Post News online, discusses the growing population of vehicles as the major problem of air pollution. Watt acknowledges that “with more than 13 million cars sold in China last year, motor vehicles have emerged as the chief culprit for the throat-choking air pollution in big cities, especially Beijing…” As the economy revolutionizes Beijing, millions of people can now afford vehicles. In her article, Watt mentions Gao Fei, an owner of a Buick, who says “To be honest, the more the air is polluted, the more I prefer to drive, as I don't like taking a crowded bus or walking outside in such bad air.” Gao is more concerned about his own convenience…
Article one describes how the air pollution was so bad in 16 British cities that the British covered was placed into violation of EU laws. Air pollution is a serious public health threat and it kills up to tens of thousands of people every year. In fact it states that researchers concluded that just up to two hours of exposure to tragic fumes causes significant reductions in lung capacity among people who have resiratory conditions. Even worse is that the diesel fumes contain carbon particles that are believed to enter the blood increasing you're risk of a heart attack. Article two explains that women are much more likely to die by 38% from sudden cardiac arrest if they live near major roads. Even though researchers couldn't 100% prove air…
With over 614 million tonnes of carbon dioxide produced every year, and emissions from oil sands growing rapidly, Canada is the fifth most polluted country in the world. Because of constant environmental issues occurring in Canada, the government and citizens of Canada must make important decisions to regulate these problems. Although Canada cannot be mended back to its original state, Canada’s environment would show many signs of improvement, through decreasing pollution as well as lowering waste levels.…
I am writing to you today, asking if you would join me in trying to reduce pollution in the United States of America in 2017.…
To the environmental protection agency I want to request something we should do about our air pollution problems that we are currently having here in the united states. I Ask myself Why is air pollution a global issue that should be monitored. I am a American citizens and my state is currently affected by it. Here are some reason why.…
Central idea: Coal has many negatives effects in our environment and we can help to reduce these effects by implementing wind energy in our houses, which can produce the same results in our homes.…
