poem.
I also agree with the scholars that the age Augustus was important to know about and to understand was because in the book of The Aeneid, the second book, Aeneid talks about how he was loyal to the gods and his family. Aeneid in book 2 he is famed for leaving troy taking his father and the Trojan gods. This reflects on Augustus because he is also well known for his pietas. This is why I think one of the reasons of reading the Age of Augustus in because most of Augustus reflect onto Aeneid and how there character trait ties in.
Another trait that they have between themselves is the lack of being a leader.
In the book of The Aeneid: by Virgil, translated by Robert Fitzgerald (pg61/pl1040), Aeneid says "with their belongings, for whatever lands Id lead them to by sea." Aeneid talks about how he is leading his men out of the city and travel to a better place but Aeneid doesn't really know where to travel so he takes his men and sails out to the sea. This is why I think Aeneid is lacking to be a leader. He does a good thing of taking his men out of there but he doesn't really know where to go. With Augustus was the same he didn’t know how to lead his men. But both men were had people following them because the people would believe them and trusted there leaders to lead them to greatness.
Another good reason why we cant understand The Aeneid without understanding Age of Augustus is because most of the history of Age of Augustus is based on the story of Aeneas. If It wasn’t for Augustus there probably wouldn’t be a story made of Aeneas. Also people make story's up and make the leaders of the Roman emperor look bigger and better than other stories. People knew Augustus was a big leader but they try to make there leader big and make up stories so that people can amaze how great the leader
was.
The book of Aeneas made me realize that if I didn’t read about the Age of Augustus I wouldn’t really understand most of the book of Aeneid. I think scholars are right about that if you don’t know and understand the story about Augustus and how he was loyal, and a weak leader, and the stories about him then you wouldn’t really understand some of the context in the book of Aeneas. Some people mite say that they do understand the book but they wouldn’t understand what made this story happen and how was is made by Virginal with the true story of Augustus life. Most of the story of Aeneas, Virgil tried to have the same character as the lead of Roman Augustus.
