Stated in “The Myth of Inferiority” by T. Allen Culpepper, students who have hard lives are justified to having late papers, excessive absences, rewrite opportunities, but never plagiarized work. Throughout the article many examples are stated to support why. Students deal with financial instability, cope with economic hardships, and are always competing with obligations between family, work and school.…
Some people still go to church just to be seen sitting in the pews. They go to church because they want to appear to be a good Christian person.…
Yes, yes, yes Anita!!! This troubled world we live in idolizes materialist things and people more than worship God. You will see more people spending more time going to concerts than praying. Or even spending more money on their appearance than tithing. Luther’s reference to idolatry was truly on point. People are idolizing the “American dream” than the one who is the reason behind it all,…
I've always found that misconceptions can affect attitude. Sometimes we get too wrapped up in life's details. The separate ingredients of culture and lifestyle captivate us so throughly that we lose our perspective on life itself. We scurry like mice through a hedge maze--the real beauty of life lies just beyond the bushes, and what is that beauty? Simplicity is what it is. As T. Allen Culpepper, the author of The Myth of Inferiority explains in his article, hope quickly grows dim when the obstecales of life throw their knock-out punches ( Culpepper, 300)…
How far is it possible to reconcile the desire for development with the need to manage biodiversity (14)…
Most people sometimes commit a sin without knowing they did it. There are seven deadly sins. This sins include pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed, and laziness. With this in mind, in the Miller's Tale Chaucer represents three out of the 7 sins. Chaucer shows the sins of lust, envy, and pride. He does this using imagery, characterization, and symbolism.…
Humans have always wondered what drives them to make the choices the make. One of the theories people have come up with is that self-interest primarily motivates mankind. This theory is defended in the actions of Luba and her suitor in Angels of Bergen-Belsen, the decisions made by Ilsa Hermann and Hans Hubermann in The Book Thief, and the struggles with death in Night.…
The differing ideologies between the Soviet Union and other western countries also led to a difference in playing styles of the same sport, which can be noticed in the text “Envy” by Olesha. In one scene of the story, there is a soccer match going on between the German team and the Russian team. In this scene, particular focus is put on two players, Hetzke of the German team and Makarov of the Russian team. Hetzke’s style of play is very disruptive to his teammates, and represents the idea of capitalism; Makarov’s style of play, on the other hand, was more in unison with his teammates. These ideas reflected the Soviet Union ideals themselves. Makarov represented the new man that the Soviet Union was trying to push. He put the team ahead of…

When people want something they justify that it is their right to have it and therefore can do what it takes to get it. This is a fact that is shown in the play of Macbeth many times and often explains the horrible actions of some of the characters. He says: “If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me without my stir.” This shows that he now knows of his potential to be king which means that he will do whatever it takes to become king. He believes that it is now his right to take that position and therefore has to kill King Duncan to get it. You can also see this in the way lady Macbeth thinks. Once she hears of Macbeth’s meeting with the witches she automatically thinks of how they will get it and can only see all the good things that they could have and doesn’t think of any of the consequences. Selfish desires get the best of us and we don’t see the consequences as a reason to not try to get what we want.…
As the cliche goes, no man is an island. Everything man does is influenced by other men and his environment. Be it in school or at work, the reason why people persevere lies on the desire to achieve a certain goal. Hence, motivation is essential to keep the drive of doing things passionately and effectively. However, the enthusiasm to sustain the dream and keep the motivation alive can be tampered by life’s uncertainties. Given the unique characteristics that each student possess, the amount of effort exerted by an average student does not always equal the amount of effort exerted by an outlier in class, yet the results are the same or sometimes exceeded by the outlier. Perhaps there are instances when studying overnight and not studying at all yielded the same result. These situations affect the level of motivation a student harness when studying. The feeling of unfairness affects how he/she will prepare for the next exam. In the workplace setting, motivation is likewise an important factor to increase productivity. For example, an employee who worked overtime to get the job well done vis-a-vis an employee who slacked off and produced a mediocre output both received the same salary and the same praises from their boss. The hardworking employee might feel wronged upon seeing how his extra effort was overlooked. To give justice to the unfairness he feels, he opts to mimic the other employee, thus also producing a mediocre output.…
Nigeria as a nation is ravaged by many internal problems. It is no longer news even to the blind that things are not the way they should be in our society. Nigeria problem is hydra-headed. Many scholars have viewed it from the different perspective as corruption, problem of leadership, indiscipline, greediness, consumerism, et cetera. Squander mania mentality is not out of the list. The rate at which people spread dollars at occasions is quite embarrassing. The history of Nigerians is that of a people in search of naira and the ostentatious show of wealth. Some people construe squandeermaniarism as a means of ascertaining themselves in the society. So, the more ostentatious you are, the more you are socially recognized and canonized. The root cause of social evil in our society is nothing but consumer consciousness. In bid to have more in order to spend extravagantly people often indulge in all kinds of ills like: kidnapping, bribery, drug addict, money laundry, stealing, armed robbery, gangsterism, corruption and embezzlement. Squandermania consciousness has turned some of our leaders into caterpillars’ of common wealth. In fact the evil malice in us has been exalted to the point of genius in some of us. Moreover, in January 1987, the Anambra State government under the governorship of Captain Emeka Omeruah organized a crusade against squandermania. They so accurately deciphered the basis of indiscipline and underdevelopment in our nation as squandermania mentality. In this work we shall be looking at squandermania mentality as the root cause of our social evil and the possible remedy. In order to better appreciate this topic, let us explicate the basic concept.…
1) LOVE ABOVE ALL. I grew up in a tight-knit religious family. My weekends and vacations were spent at our church. As much as I enjoyed our church activities and thankful that we were given opportunities to travel and evangelize or learn how to, I dread the “un-Christian ways” of the adult church members. I remember them arguing about finances and sometimes the women gossiped about each other. While I felt peace and love amongst my peers, I felt like there was too much hatred amongst the adults. As members of a church, we should love each other and alongside we should give respect and service to the church (people) (Towns, pg. 101). Our duties as Christians go beyond going to church every Sunday. Christians nowadays focus on the regularity of their church (place of worship) visits but half of the time neglecting their responsibilities towards members of the church (people). We must never forget that what we do to our fellowmen, we do to God. If we are disrespectful to our parents, we are disrespecting God too. If we criticize our neighbors, we are criticizing God too. Equally, when we help our fellowmen, we are helping God too. When we lend a hand, show love and generosity to others, we are doing the same to God. If we love each other, everything else--- respect, service, unity etc – follows. When we let love rule our hearts, love will rule our church. And because love rules, there will be no place for greed, no unnecessary arguments on church finances, no church member gossips, no hatred, no jealousy and what not…and we can all focus on reciprocating God’s love to us. By doing these, we strengthen our ties as a church; we create a stronger bond with each other and at the same time we power-proof our ties and relationship with God. By demonstrating to each other acts of love, respect, service etc., we likewise show a reflection of a better Christian, a reflection of love-empowered…
I am not a Christian, so I cant say much about them. But I do know that Jesus taught people to love, and warned them against the things that lead them away from love. These things are usually described as the seven deadly sins: pride, greed, jealousy, envy, lust, sloth, and wrath. The bible says, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” But yet, there are so many churches brainwashing their congregation into…
It is the theory that goes forward and tries to explain the relational satisfaction in terms of understanding of the fair distribution of the resources with the various interpersonal skills. Also known as the justice theories, the theory was found by John Stacey Adams, who maintained his pool of thought where employees who were searching for the maintenance of equity between two inputs that bring the jobs and the regular results that they will be receiving from the inputs and the outcomes of the others. With the belief that the people value justified treatment which causes others to be encouraged however, fairness should be maintained among the relationships, co workers and the outcomes. The various inputs are actually contributed by the employee of the organization.…
