The story of Hamlet is undoubtedly one of the most famous stories in the whole wide world of literature. It features everything one would wish for in a tale: death, love, injustice, revenge, doubt, and eventually, (in)sanity. How is it with the latter, though? Was the main protagonist of Shakespeare’s most famous play a real madman? Was he faking lunacy to baffle the others? Or did periods of sanity and insanity fluctuate throughout the course of the story? These are the questions that will be looked at and answered in the following paragraphs, and perhaps the enigma of Hamlet’s mental health will finally be resolved.…
Hamlet was brought up as a prince, a noble born, embedded with sweetness. Showered with love and provided with whatever necessary for a prince… He was out studying and not being involved in politics of Denmark or even being involved with the series of war King Hamlet has being fighting. He embodies a full course of human emotion, ranging from grief, love, anger, rage, and passion to fear and insanity. It is safe to say that many of Shakespeare’s plays have some sort of madness intertwined in the plot which plays an important role in the story. In the play, Hamlet, the madness as a whole and within the main character himself, Hamlet, plays a vital role. At the start of the play, the main character, Hamlet encounters the ghost of his recently murdered father, King Hamlet. Hamlet learns that the new King Claudius, who is the deceased King’s brother, is the one who murdered King Hamlet. Claudius also married his deceased brother’s wife, who is also Hamlet’s mother, Gertrude. The mere plot of the story is an obvious reason to why Hamlet behaved the irrational way that he did.…

The play Hamlet is without a doubt an odd story to read based on what society today has become accustomed to. A brother killing another brother, and then marrying his wife. It is not a typical story in the modern world today. There is a vast variety of different themes that can be traced throughout the play, however the most popular is madness and sanity. Madness and sanity shape the play into what it is, without madness and sanity the play would have no life. Certain actions would not occur, certain events would not occur, and certain statements would not occur. Hamlet is a perfect example in the thought of is he acting insane or is he truly insane?…
In Shakespeare's Hamlet, it is the desire for revenge that lies behind the motives of young Hamlet. His moral struggle towards revenge becomes an obsession leading to a change in character. In an article posted by the Washington Post, I found the title intriguing. The title reads, “Police killed the black ‘Miami zombie.’ So why did a terrifying, face-eating white teen live?” We live in a nation where it is not unusual to hear about racial violence on the news, radio broadcast, or online. While I cannot argue that there is a serious problem with our justice system, and how people of different races are treated, I think it is important to remember people are losing their lives due to drugs and violence that run rampant in our country. Other countries, such as Europe, do not have the same racial issues or tensions that America is currently facing; at least if they are they are, they do not as heavily…
Only in Miami can you see a Cuban family-run restaurant serving Italian pizza while playing a style of music that originated in Africa. Every day we experience the foods, music, and traditions of many different cultures. Almost no family shares the same cultural blend as another. My family is no exception to this trend. My mom was born and raised in Florida however; her father has descendants from England. My paternal grandmother’s family came from France, but the war kept sending them back and forth between Spain and France. My grandmother is the only one of her siblings born in Spain. I also have German and Venezuelan roots. I think of it all as the ingredients in the dish Chicken Chop; the most prominent ingredients in this “Cultural Dish” are the English and Hispanic cultures. These are the elements, sprinkled with some cosmopolitan influential flare, that have influenced my personal culture over the years.…
William Shakespeare's play, Hamlet, documents one character's continual development. From a hesitant youth to a ruthless revenge-seeker, there are three major turning points that propose the start of Hamlet's wicked evolution. In dealing with his father's passing, Hamlet's grief burdens him to be overwrought with emotion and causes him to contemplate the irrational, even murder. The Players' scene, Prayer scene and Closet scene all present possible key turning points for this change. Although Hamlet's sanity remains questionable throughout the play, these three scenes suggest possible points in which Hamlet becomes particularly vicious. Beginning with the vision of his father's ghost relaying the notion of his own murder by Hamlet's uncle, Claudius, Hamlet's mind becomes increasingly flooded with impulsions.…
