The Role Of Hestia In Greek Mythology

In Greek Mythology Hestia was the goddess of hearth, family, and domestic life. She is the eldest of the Olympian gods, her brothers and sisters being Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, and Hera. Her parents were Cronus and Rhea, Cronus ate all of them because he feared they would one day overthrow him. When he ate them he swallowed hestia first because she was the oldest. When Zeus forced Cronus to throw them up, Hestia came out last. Her symbol is the hearth and its fire. She swore an oath to be a virgin forever, so she never married. Although in one story she was almost raped by the god priapus, luckily the braying of a mule awoke her in time. Her name represented the home and its residents, it also represented the relationship between colonies
