In The Odyssey, many people might say Odysseus is the hero or that he is the Villon, but in my opinion Odysseus is the hero. Odysseus had to leave behind his new born son, Telemachus and his wife Penelope to go fight in the Trojan War, Odysseus had been gone for approximately 20 years.…
I believe that Odysseus fits the stereotype when it comes to following the man box. I say this because he does cry but he also doesn’t back down from a challenge. Odysseus is weeping on the island of Ogygia and showing his emotions. The book picks up when they “found him there on the the head land, sitting still, weeping, his eyes never dry.”(Book 5 line 167) This quote shows that he is not listening to the ingredients that are in the man box, which is to never cry and express his emotions. He does show that he is a superior man even after being beat up by the waves. He shows that he’s not afraid and he will stand up to challengers “ up he sprang, cloak and all, sized a discus, huge and heavy, more weight by far than those.”(Book 8 line 216-217)…
Odysseus, in The Odyssey by Homer, and I both demonstrate determination in many different ways. The first example is when they stopped at the land of the Lotus Eaters. The men that ate the lotus wanted to stay on the land because they were addicted to the lotus, but Odysseus, the great leader, would never let that happen. He said, “I drove them, all three wailing, to the ships, tied them down under their rowing benches” and told the rest not to eat the Lotus or they would lose their wishes of wanting to return home (898). This shows Odysseus’s committed and driven state of mind in the way that he would not leave any man behind, and he knew he needed to help them up on the ship and return them home safely. In addition, Circe warned Odysseus…
The Odyssey is about the adventurer and leader Odysseus who is on an epic journey back home. The only problem is his crew that went along on his journey was all met in an untimely demise, the reason being, Odyessus was unfit to be a leader among his crew. This was a tragedy could have been avoided. In this analysis it will tell the reader on why Odysseus was a terrible leader for this epic journey to begin with.…
Malala Yousafzai said, “We were scared, but our fear was not as strong as our courage.” To some people, courage is seen in everyday acts of bravery. When a person does what seems to be a brave act during a calamity, without proper training, it is not bravery. It. Is. Courage. Courage is doing something that is dangerous and noble, but not irrational. It should also make you a better person, or the world a better place.…
1: Athena explains to the gods that Odysseus remains trapped on Calypso's Island and needs help, and the suitors plan to murder Telemachus. Zeus agrees that it is time for Odysseus to return home, but that it will not be easy. Zeus explains, "He shall build a raft, and a hard voyage he shall have, until twenty days he shall come to land on Scheria, the rich domain of our own…
In book 9 when Odysseus impales a burning wooden staff into Polyphemus’ eye then informs the raging cyclops that his name is nobody is an ideal instance in which directly exemplifies Odysseus’ intelligence significantly benefitting him where using his somatic fortitude would not. Before stabbing Polyphemus in the eye, Odysseus gets him drunk first to ensure he would not have enough coordination to attempt to kill him and his remaining crew members. The triumphant plan of intoxicating Polyphemus before impaling him so that his coordination will be disoriented rather than actually fighting him portrays why Odysseus is often times looked at as an respectable character. In attempt to get the cyclops tipsy, Odysseus says, “Three bowls I brimmed and three he drank to the last drop” (9.405). Then, Polyphemus asks Odysseus…
In the story Odyssey by Homer Odysseus action against the wooers and the people that were involved were justified. The wooers technically exiled there king. Then the wooers wanted to get rid of everything and everyone who were loyal to Odysseus and they wanted to cover up that Odysseus was actually gone.…
{Odysseus is a hero in The Odyssey because of his bravery throughout the story, The Odyssey. He may have made a few unintelligent decisions however one can’t blame someone for an unintelligent decision. Odysseus was only human and no one is perfect. }…
Homer explicitly illuminates the storytelling of Odysseus' adventure. He describes the cyclops lair, where he and twelve of his crewmen where held captive for taking cheese and expecting a welcoming gift from the cyclops that lived there.…
Odysseus, the main character of The Odyssey,by Homer, certainly qualifies as an epic hero. He has help from numerous characters, defeats a handful of supernatural enemies, and is known by many individuals from across the land.…
Alike to the children who are able to watch “...their father’s life dawn again”, Odysseus is given a sign that the domestic life he craves for will be bestowed upon him soon (437). The father on the brink of death symbolizes how Odysseus’ yearning to return to a domestic life as a citizen and be with his family had originally appeared to be dying and impossible to achieve due to his distance. At first, Odysseus’ life is comparable to the storm Poseidon created, chaotic and filled with perils threatening to take his life and destroy his hope. However, upon seeing “...that shore, those trees” the stability of domesticity is approaching him (441). In comparison to the storm, the land becomes Odysseus’ anchor as it stabilizes him and provides him…
On the subject of heroism, Maya Angelou once wrote that “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people” (Angelou). The general picture that comes to mind when the word “hero” is said is the idea of Superman or Wonder Woman; however, a true hero is anyone who tries to make their world a better place. Odysseus, the hero in Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, fought in the Trojan War and embarked on a ten year journey to return to his kingdom, Ithaca. During his quest to return home, he encounters many supernatural forces that show both his heroic, and not so heroic actions. He faces countless challenges, meets new people, and has to make sacrifices for the overall benefit of his crew (Bowler and Homer 645-705).…
journey also started mine. While following Odysseus I learned many things, one of them being, family is the most important thing. Odysseus defeats all his enemies and overcomes all obstacles in order to return to his wife Penelope and son Telemachuse. He was brave when he fought and he was smart, always making plans ahead of time. His journey also taught me to be patient; Odysseus waited ten years to be reunited with his family. For now unto the last part of Odysseus and his journey. I was watching from. It seemed as if Circumspect Penelope had given up on Odysseus return because she was hosting a competition and winner would win her hand in marriage. I only heard about this from some rumors so on the day of the competition I went to see using…
According to the trial I faced in my life it reflects my character to Odysseus's . I feel like it is a mark in my life , just like Odysseus journey .It is difficult to forget something that is markable . For example , Odysseus would never forget that difficult and unforgettable would never forget this big tragedy in my life . Odysseus and my journey are similar because they are both harmful.…
