The epitome of professionalism to me is the ability to stand against all odds and be successful.
The epitome of professionalism to me is the ability to stand against all odds and be successful.
Professionalism is being open minded to all aspects of life and being tolerant towards different groups of people or situations. This also pertains to the training that is being given to the Medical Administrative Assistants so that there will be an understanding of the type of situations that will occur in the clinic including the types of people you may have to work with. This is important because you as the Assistant is making the patient priority and taking all their concerns into…
The field of physical therapy requires the ability to relate well to people, not only in a physician - patient scenario, but also in the constant interaction with other health care professionals. It aims to restore movement and function, relieve pain, and prevent illness and injury. APTA’s vision for physical therapy “transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience” means differently for every motivated future physical therapist. For me, this vision means changing society by addressing each patient’s needs differently than the next patient. Keeping this notion in mind will help me achieve my goals as a future physical therapist.…

Despite these “bumps in the road”, I am hopeful and confident that the future of physical therapy is much better. Perhaps, the ACA’s emphasis on prevention and wellness programs will eventually lead to a wealth of new business opportunities for physical therapists, and therapists will become increasingly involved in patient care decisions, including those related to post-in-patient treatment plans. This could go a long way toward achieving complete…
Professionalism is an ambiguous term with numerous interpretations. In essence, it refers to a collection of attitudes and attributes that every member of a profession is expected to abide by, which include but are not limited to integrity, accountability, respect and compassion. Though important in all occupations, professionalism is particularly paramount in medicine in order to ensure that the most effective care is provided to each and every patient.…
Professionalism in occupational therapy means protecting patients and oneself. An occupational therapist should maintain a working relationship without crossing the professional line. It also means to continuing one’s education throughout their career as new technological and medical advances are made to better serve their patients.…
I am planning on making my career as a physical therapist. The main job responsibilities of a PT are diagnosing and managing dysfunction and improve physical and functional abilities, bring back, maintain and promote optimal physical function as well as optimal wellness and fitness and optimal quality of life associated with movement and health. PT’s also take patient’s medical history, conduct a system review, and conduct different tests to diagnose any current potential and existing issues. They create exercise programs specific to each patient and assists the patients in following them in their every PT visit. PT’s later conduct progress evaluation to examine the any improvements in patients and the extent of the improvements.…
The mission of PT professional education is to graduate well-informed, service-oriented, confident, adjustable, reflective practitioners who, by virtue of critical and integrative thinking, lifelong learning, and moral principles, render self-sufficient judgments concerning patient needs that are supported by evidence; encourage the health of the patient or client; and add to the professional, background, and mutual foundations for practice. These practitioners contribute to society and the profession through practice, teaching, administration, and the discovery and application of new knowledge about physical therapy experiences of sufficient excellence and breadth to allow the acquisition and application of essential knowledge, skills, and behaviors as applied to the practice of physical therapy. Learning experiences are provided under the guidance and supervision of competent faculty, in both the classroom and the clinic. After graduating you must then pass a state-administered national exam. Upon passing the exam you will need to meet any additional requirements your state licensing board may have, before they will allow you to practice.…
Unlike many professions in the world, nursing is a career that requires vast amounts of interpersonal communication with patients, families, and fellow care providers. This large amount of communication is not an easy load to handle especially when a nurse has to communicate and also maintain professionalism. To preserve professionalism while working, a nurse must maintain professional communication, have positive first impressions upon patients and coworkers, follow values that allow for relationship building, and communicate in order to build trust.…
I had the pleasure of shadowing a physical therapist in a home health setting treating children under the age of three. At first what initially looked like playing with the kids turned out to be much harder when I tried emulating what the therapist did. Throughout my senior year and even more now as a graduate, I realize I'm still constantly learning. I desire to continue to observe different settings as well as retake a class in order to prepare myself for school. Beyond shadowing I jumped on an opportunity to work side-by-side therapists. I took a position as a rehab aide at an outpatient clinic and enjoy seeing all I’ve learned so far being applied every day. I have absorbed knowledge of different protocols, handing practices, and front office operations. I relished being a part of the treatment process as well as the everyday tasks involved in running a clinic. It opened my eyes to better see the depth and breadth of the world of physical…
While the word `professionalism' usually refers simply to the quality of being professional, in truth it does not describe a single quality, but rather encompasses many different attributes that together define what a professional is. Throughout my experiences in various physical therapy settings, I was fortunate enough to observe therapists who have not only served as my role models, but have also taught me what professionalism really means. Not only excelling in their duties as physical therapists, every person I've been lucky enough to work with has been kind, accountable, and extremely committed, all of which are traits I have tried to emulate in my work as a volunteer and physical therapy technician. While I observed various displays of professionalism in different physical therapy…
While physical therapy is an exciting and rewarding work environment, professionalism must still be maintained in the work place. In order to be the best physical therapist possible, professionalism must first be demonstrated while obtaining a degree in a doctor of physical therapy program. Three components are essential in order to demonstrate professionalism in a doctor of physical therapy program: integrity, curiosity, and taking pride in ones work. Since the inception of the first doctor of physical therapy program in 1993, the healthcare field has shifted into allowing direct access for physical therapists, along with allowing them to evaluate the patients’ condition without a diagnosis by a medical doctor.…
On January 15, 2016 I was involved in a major car accident when a driver ran a traffic light and collided into my vehicle. After the accident I suffered from neck and back pain due to severe whiplash, as well a bone bruise on my right elbow and left knee. At this time I failed to let anyone in the training unit know of the accident because I believed that I had enough time to heal from my injuries and would be able to complete my hours.…
Physical therapy programs require dedication, commitment, tenacity, and desire from students. It should be considered as the student's job for two and half years. It requires students in the program who are learning to act like professionals. A student may be limited in what they are able to accomplish however; they still have the opportunity to act professionally. How a student in a physical therapy program behaves while in the program, will most likely translate into how he or she will conduct themselves as a physical therapist. Professionalism in the context of being a student in a physical therapy program has many characteristics that are expected as a professional physical therapist. A student must have punctuality, motivation, a good…
