The Roman Empire: One Of The Largest Empires In History
The Roman Empire was one of the largest empires in history. Rome, with such a prosperous and aggressive military controlled the Mediterranean Sea and the countries around it. Their empire was so big and vast, it had to be controlled and watched by thousands of Roman guards daily. Towards the end of the great empire, it became harder and harder to regulate and maintain the borders. With recent sacks and local uprisings that occurred in and out of Rome’s walls, it became hard to gather enough troops to fight and also defend the borders. Since Rome’s territory was so extensive, it became hard to transport troops quickly and efficiently even though they had effective road systems. As was became more present in Rome, lots of money was used to keep

Doc 2. States “Rome’s fall was an inevitable effect of its grand size.” Due to Rome’s enormous extent of land from conquering, they couldn’t keep up the amount of gold and reliable soldiers to maintain roads and routine maintenance. The numerous Roman-ruled countries created the necessity for soldiers and protection to break up any civil wars and stop any foreign barbarians from invading and ruining Roman property. However, many Roman-hired foreign soldiers were disloyal and unfaithful to Rome and there weren’t enough Roman soldiers to protect the borders which allowed for invasions, riots, and revolts to occur. This was also stated in Doc. 2 as “borders became difficult to secure.” To keep the roads in shape for trade, Rome needed a lot of gold, which was never enough. This hurt the economy because lacking the ability to maintain roads meant that they also couldn’t maintain trade. If there wasn’t a large, increasing rate of civilizations and countries being conquered by Roman officials, then Rome would’ve been able to preserve their economy, and drastically decreased the amount of riots and invasions caused by anger and…

The Ancient Roman civilisation is known for their vast empire, spreading across Europe and parts of Africa. With so many people in this vast empire, many tactics and factors came into play to keep them happy and safe. These factors enabled emperors to do both of these things, and continue to expand their empire. Arguably the best way to keep the barbarians out were the borders, both natural and manmade.…

The Romans were great diplomats. They were firm when necessary and smart about granting citizenship. They also let citizens participate in domestic affairs. Their military was made up of strong, persistent soldiers. If a substantial amount of men were lost in battle they wouldn’t just surrender, but instead recruit new soldiers. They would build up new armies so that they could keep fighting. The Romans were also good strategists. By the year 264 BCE Rome had established colonies in strategic spots throughout Italy. By connecting these settlements with roads, they built a military and communication network that helped them rule more effectively. By getting military help from allies, they mobilized Italy’s military…

During the Pax Romana Era, the Roman Empire was at its peak in the Mediterranean because of powerful, unified governmental rulings. The army and the emperors ruled over a huge amount of land; from North Africa to the northern parts of Britannia, a city-state. Throughout the empire, infrastructures and roads were cultivated by the centralized governments of Rome. However, by 600 C.E., the empire had collapsed due to a feudalistic system with no centralized government. Before 100 C.E., the empire relied on developing conquests and extensive expansion. But by 600 C.E., the empire had stopped land acquisition. Due to this complication and a non-existent budget, pressures on the government to fund the army substantially increased. Because of this, the Rome shifted from growth to defensive. This resulted in the decline of men wanting to join the army; by the 4th century, the army diminished in numbers to the point of ruin. As a result incompetent rulers, unable to address the magnitude of these issues, came to power. As the empire continued to weaken, Germanic tribes invaded Rome and the army was left defenseless. As a result, the Roman Empire collapsed due to internal and external strife.…

I like the new guys. George is a nice fella, an’ so is Lennie. Lennie is the only fella’ I have power over in this ranch, and I like it because imma’ black guy and he’s a white guy. Like the other night when all the boys went to town and it were just me and Lennie. I said “s’pose George went into town tonight and you never heard of him no more”. I could tell that the doubt was too much for him to handle. I felt bad but I felt good at the same time, but straight after that it went back to normal; me being the powerless lonely guy. Loneliness is a disease. It eats away at people slowly, gradually tearing them limb from limb and it is turning me insane.…

From C.A. 300 CE to 476 CE Rome began a steady decline to its collapse. Some historians disagree with this and have other theories. One of the other theories is that the Roman Empire did not collapse as the Eastern Empire did not collapse until “Fall of Rome at Constantinople in 1453.” The base of this theory is that the Eastern Empire became the Byzantium Empire, however it was no longer the Roman Empire as there were no longer any Roman Emperors. Another theory by Peter Wells is “The Roman Empire “fell” only in the minds of people who had a particular and limited view of what the Roman Empire was and who understood events such as Alaric’s capture of Rome in A.D. 410 as marking its end.” Wells argues that the change was extremely gradual and continued well past 476 CE. While Wells theory is more valid, the empire still did not exist after 476 CE.…
