The Roundup Monologue
On July 15th, 1942, someone slips under the door of our apartment a sheet of paper that said : the "night will be very hot" it was the announcement the roundup would be the next following day. The same day, in the afternoon came my friend Gilbert and as always he brought a basket with fruit and some vegetables. He explained to my grandfather and mom that the roundup would be for the next following day the 16 that it was necessary to hide and take all feasible precautions, also explained that his dad would pass to collect the "basket" that was us at the end of the afternoon of the 16. Mom decided we should sleep together, although my grandfather had hoped that we were safe because we were French in addition, it believed that they wouldn't …show more content…
You could hear all kinds of screams, the police rushing to the people, the men calling and asking not to bring their wives and children, and it was a great deal of confusion during more than one hour. You could hear the racing of the people on the stairs, the cries of children and suddenly there was a profound silence in our building. All the noise had ceased, there was a deep silence. Lia has fallen asleep in my arms, and I couldn't move in our hideout, and so the hours passed slowly. Every hour until my hiding place, I could hear the chimes of the wall clock that was in the living room of our apartment. Finally, Leah woke up and I got out of the hiding place without making noise to see how it was Jacob in the high part of the piano. I saw that was okay and told him he had to make no noise. We couldn't move. Jacob without saying anything decided to go to the living room and brought me the photographs of father, mother and grandfather, Nanou which I take off from their frameworks and kept it in my backpack and are the only memory of our family that we could save. And are the only reminders of our family

In a few seconds, they found the reason for the deathly silence of an otherwise active and busy household. There were corpses lying everywhere. It was a truly horrifying sight. Some had been flayed open while others had a few limbs missing. One officer threw up as the sharp scent of blood overpowered them. The farther they went in, the more corpses they found. The sight and smell was too gory and wretched to…

I heard a whistle from the Germans as I dug into the blood-stained trench. The shattering impact of a nearby bomb echoed in my head, accompanied by cracks of gunfire as bullets whistled through the sky. Brave men that had stood by my side now lay lifeless on the ground around me. Fellow soldiers began to huddle…

A camera was perched high in the left corner of the room and the sweltering heat led me to imagine that it was able to follow my every movement. I only knew how long I had been sitting in the room because of the clock high above the door, ticking ominously. Each second seemed to take longer than the previous one and I was slowly losing my mind.…

I was sitting with my family at the breakfast table drinking milk and eating a piece of burnt toast; that was when I heard the feint sound of sirens coming from the east end of the block. My dads face grew pale and my mother quickly stood up and grabbed my brother and mines hand. She guided us towards the back of the house through a small opening in the floor. Once we reached the hole, she took my brothers hand and placed it in mine, telling him to watch over me. We were put into the hole and she kissed our heads, then covered the little light we had with a rug. I started to panic, unaware of the destruction and persecution that lay before me on a silver platter. We spent a week in that ditch, although it had felt like a lifetime. All the while, I thought of my parents: where had they gone; would they soon return? One day while we were there, with cramps building up in my legs, I heard footsteps coming from above my head. My brother hoping it was our parents returning to save us from the forever darkness that we faced slid the rug over and peered up with squinting eyes. The rough man standing above us, however, was not our father, but a man I would soon come to know as, Nazi soldier. The reasons of our taking were not because of crime, but because of my ethnicity, the way I looked, the way I spoke, and even my religion.…

I awoke today with the light streaming into my room and hearing the birds chirping in the distance. As I regained my conscience, I smelled the mold and felt damp room conditions all around me that imprisoned me. It reminded me of what would have happened only in a nightmare. It was only yesterday that Corey, Nurse, Hale and I had gone to help the accused women. So many times I felt that I could win the battle, yet just as many times I could feel the rope slipping through my fingers.…

He didn’t know where to begin. The apartment complex was two stories and ten apartments to a floor and the entire complex had been reduced to rubble with only a few walls standing in place. His room was on the top farthest to the right so he rolled up his sleeves and decided to head that way. He heard kids crying and people screaming, he bumped into people as they hurried past him. He saw a woman on her phone, tears rolling down her face as she cried to the person on the…

I lost track of time, but all I knew was that the daylight was disappearing. After taking the back roads we had finally approached the Wirraree hospital. The town was awfully quiet, so quiet that I could hear my pounding heart out in the open, making me fall in to great suspicion that I was in some sort of trap ready to be captured. Corrie and I were still in the car with the engine running. I didn’t want to get out just yet, unsure of why, but I knew there was soon to be a reason. Turning my head, I noticed three large security cameras in view. Without thinking clearly, I immediately swerved out of sight into a small dark alleyway not knowing it had a dead end. We hid in there for a few minutes, so I could swiftly think about how I could get Corrie out of the car and safely into the hospital without being seen. Before I really even had a minute to consider my…

Her curls slip through his fingers and before he knows it, he is the one trapped between a killer and a brick wall. There is a moment of silence in the grand library, all is still but the tick-tock of an intricate clock hanging above the mantle and the harsh cocking of a handgun. Slowly and gracefully, without taking her eyes or pistol off of the man, the woman picks up a small velvet bag from the shadows pooling on the hardwood…

The room was eerily quiet, aside from the sound of a latex glove and a creaky bed. The loudest and most unnerving of them all was her heartbeat, which was slow, dangerously slow. Most of the noise around her was drowned out by the beating of her heart, drifting her away from her surroundings.…

Montag stirred in his spot, feeling troubled, for it was too quiet. With all the commotion going on previously in the city, it was baffling to hear absolutely no sound now. It was almost unbelievable, and Montag realized how uncanny this silence actually was. This silence wasn’t peaceful at all. It was as if something harsh was about to occur, like in the horror movies. It was the silence of death.…

I quickly grabbed the children and rushed quickly outside of the city carefully weaving between alleys as to not give away our hiding spot. On the way back I peak into a massive house the largest in the city its was Jia’s house I saw her family huddled in a corner as many of the soldiers around them quickly scurried around looking for items and anything they can take. My eyes quickly darted away as a figure clad in gray came out of the house in front dragging a man who seemed to be unconscious but still alive. The rising and falling of his chest was inconsistent and he was gasping for air. His arms were covered in purple and black spots and his face was caked with blood and sweat.…
