The Rumination Rut, By Ellen Mcgrath
In the article, “The Rumination Rut,”, by Ellen McGrath writes about those that always dwell on unenthusiastic thoughts for more than five minutes are probably suffering rumination rut. These people find it difficult to move past their problems that cause the despair. Instead of doing something about it, they hold on to whatever is causing the discomfort. Women are more than likely to be exposed to this depression. “They value relationships, and devote a great deal of time, and mental energy,” states McGrath. Women pay more homage to others than men do. There is advice on how to conquer the rumination rut. People should give themselves an assessment, hold themselves in account when they are having a negative thought, and move forward in changing the situation. Also, free your mind from the stressors by confiding with family, friends, or seek professional counseling to get an honest response to your behavior. Moreover, disclosing information to the Helper may effectively give a listening ear and empathy. Letting go and releasing stress is a healthy way to accomplish happy thoughts. …show more content…

    Yet, happiness is all about a healthy lifestyle. As an illustration, negative emotions, like the ones mentioned above, sink people into a “thread mode” and keep them from developing a positive attitude. Julie Beck in the article, “How to Build a Happier Brain” categorizes people emotions into two categories. People that are constantly stressed, pushed, or rushed fall in to the “reactive mode” category. People in this mood cannot adopt a positive attitude.
