The Running Dream Hidden Themes

The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen is the heart wrenching fictional story of a teenage runner who faces and overcomes unthinkable obstacles. Through the almost impossible to put down story, Draanen potrays several themes. Some are easy to expose and others you must dive deeper into the context.

The Running Dream has not only one but many themes. Sending a moral through a story is vital and Draanen does it amazingly. She does it in which a way in which it is noticeable yet still hidden in her words. The main theme in this story is perseverance. It's about pushing yourself towards something you're passionate about, no matter the obstacles that come your way. Jessica thought she had her life planned out,
