The sandwich factory
“The Sandwich Factory”
- Jason Kennedy

The story is called “The Sandwich Factory”. It’s about a man, who finds a work at a sandwich factory. Everyone has their own thing to do in the factory and go through the same routine every day. We only hear that they go to work, get locked in and go home again when they’re done. It’s why I’ve chosen to focus on the mechanization of human beings. It pretty much describes the world we are in today. Maybe a little too extreme but true in many ways. We, people go to work every day. Usually do some of the same things and then go home again. Many people go to work, to earn money, not because they like it. So does the guy in the story. He works with a mad kid, who shows up with a knife all the time, a woman described as a whore and a boss, who locks in the workers, if they are behind schedule and I don’t think any human would enjoy working there.

It’s shown in the text, how every work day is. “The work was carried out beside a conveyor belt. Sandwiches came along the conveyor belt. Dot was “on bread”, splitting loaves and setting the pace for the other workers. Each of us would be there with an ingredient [….] the managers would lock everyone in if we were behind schedule or there was a larger order than usual.”
The conveyor belt, which is mentioned a lot in the text, can be a symbol of their work. Something is carried up on the belt and then it goes round and round every day.

The persons in the story are all described as a little crazy. There’s a guy with a knife, showing up. “I worked at a sandwich factory where a mad kid worked. He would leer through a hatch and wave a knife at me. One day he ran after my car waving a knife.” This is the first time we hear about the mad kid. We already get a bad first impression of him here. A woman described as a whore “[…] she would’ve been an excellent pirate, giving blow jobs on the high seas and making all the pirates sandwiches. […] so Dot gave blow jobs in and around The

For my Unit 10 : Discussion posting, I have chosen to use the country "Mexico". A business group from this country has offered to purchase a franchise of Sandwich Blitz. Although both Dalman and Lei are overly excited about this idea, they must both learn about "Mexico's" cultural norms, business and meeting practices, and its values. As I understand that a meeting has been arranged for Dalman, Lei, and three representatives from the business group, to discuss the idea of "Mexico" purchasing a franchise of Sandwich Blitz. With this being a very important meeting, and it involving networking with individuals who will influence the outcome of this transit to expand the business of Sandwich Blitz, Dalman and Lei should both begin reading, reviewing, and learning…

An ordinary day at work can change the rest of your life. The story is told in the third person point of view. The setting is a petite and old-fashioned town that sits just North of Boston. In this touristy town is a typical grocery store labeled A & P. The store sits in the middle of town on Central Street, looking out of the doors two banks, three real-estate offices, a newspaper store and the Congregational church are all in view. Bright fluorescent lighting, organized aisles, and conventional setting depict the atmosphere. The main character is Sammy who is an employee at A & P and dislikes his job. He is an adolescent, who resides with his parents and enjoys making them proud. Sammy does not enjoy the customers and their boring personas. He states, “I bet you could set off dynamite in an A & P and the people would by and large keep reaching and checking oatmeal off their lists and muttering, let me see, there was a third thing, began with an A asparagus, no applesauce” (Updike para. 5). The customers Sammy deals with are ignorant and arrogant. Except three good looking girls who come into the store less dressed then others, Sammy relates to them and chooses to defend them. Sammy is faced with the conflict of man vs. society.…

In One Nation, Slightly Divisible, David Brooks breaks down the country into two groups. Blue America, or the city, and Red America, the rural area. Brooks discusses the vast differences between each group as well as the stereotypes of each. For example, in his article he says, "We sail; they powerboat. We cross-country ski; they snowmobile. We hike; they drive ATV 's. We have vineyard tours; they have tractor pulls. When it comes to yard work, they have rider mowers; we have illegal aliens" (Brooks 53) where Brooks refers to himself as a Blue American. The divisions in our country are very visible, but the hostility and jealousy toward other groups is underneath the fact that we are Americans together. It is like a cafeteria nation.…
