Introduction
The Scramble of Africa lasted throughout the years of 1876-1914 in Europe. This was a historical event which consisted of a period with rapid colonization by the European powers.
It is said that the conquest of Africa had begun with the King Leopold II of Belgium. Within about forty years into the Scramble of Africa, Great Britain had dominated majority of the
African continent, starting from areas of Egypt to South Africa, as well as Nigeria to the Gold
Coast, and so on.
Thesis
The Scramble for Africa in the late 19th century consisted of several African reactions, these of which consisted of violent resistance, as seen in documents 4, 5, 8,and 9, nonviolent resistance, as seen in documents 2, 6, and 7, and diplomacy with the Europeans, as seen in documents 1, 2, and 3.
Body Paragraph 1
The Africans reacted in response to the European Scramble for Africa by dealing with the Europeans displayed in documents 1,2,3. Document 1 is written in the perspective of
British Officials who work for the Royal Niger Company. Since this document is in the perspective of British, it it helps us understand the intentions of the British: to gain complete control of the Niger River Delta and "surrounding areas". This document reflects the British because they try to get the Africans to succumb to the rule of the British. This document demonstrates that the African Chiefs and the British Officials of the Royal Niger

However, this can be challenged because this account doesn’t show whether the African Chiefs actually agreed harmoniously or were coerced to sign this. This is also due to the fact that the British were dominant in that time which leaves the Africans with no choice but to sign the documents commissioned by the British. Document 2 is written in
