The Shallows By Nicholas Carr
The Shallows Essay
The internet has opened so many doors to the world we know today. Its has allowed us to access so much information almost instantaneously. The internet has become our way of life just due to all the things it has for us. The invention of the internet is almost as powerful as maps and clocks and even the radio; This can be seen in The Shallows by Nicholas Carr.
One of the biggest things the internet and advanced technology has created, would have to be all forms of social media. A huge benefit for social media would have to be staying connected with people. By using social media friends and family can see everything you do when you post about it, so if they live far away they can still keep up with your life. While You are

In the old days clocks were on walls they used to be on the floor. “ The mechanical clock changed the way we saw ourselves.” After the clock was made time became more and more precious because people knew how much time was being used. The clock has helped so much in the sense of being as accurate as we can get. Another thing that has evolved over time with the help of technology is the map. Maps have come a long way they first started out being drawings. “Mankind’s first maps, scratched in the dirt with a stick or carved into a stone with another stone, were as rudimentary as the scribbles of toddlers.” that quote tells you how far we have come with maps. Now we have accurate maps with exact locations of places. When the whole world went technology crazy so did everything else. Maps are now on everything you can type in a location and it will tell you how far it is, where you are going, and even what time you will get there. Another great example of how technology have evolved is google earth. With google earth you can type in anywhere on earth and it will show you. That also helps us for when we need information because it popes right up when you need

Technology. Society would be at a loss without it. Trains and planes would stop running, streetlights would go out, and cities would shut down. In fact, the entire world would come to a grinding halt. The lives of everyday people are intrinsically and irrevocably intertwined with technology, and for good reason. Technology has allowed humankind to progress. Through a sort of coevolution, humans and technology have helped each other to advance and become what they are today. As a society, humankind has developed from using sharpened sticks as weapons of war to AK-47s, and from printing presses as ways to spread news to Facebook and Twitter. Despite these huge advancements, humans have not yet progressed as far as they can. It is human nature to constantly push the limits of what is possible, so progress is inevitable, but limits could not be pushed as far as fast if technology did not reveal what human senses and determination are incapable of discovering. The idea of technology, though, is broad and multifaceted, and social media is just one area. Just like other forms of technology, social media has developed throughout history, growing increasingly faster and wide reaching. From inventions such as the six-hundred-year-old printing press to the Facebook and Twitter of today, media-based technology has never wavered in its role of expediting communication and opening doors. Social media is the catalyst that society needs in order to move forward.…

And although technology has changed over time, the behaviors associated with them, has not. A bow and arrow has changed to a gun. Our ancestors used a bow and arrow for hunting and going to war with their neighbors. We today do the same exact things with the gun. We study the past to try to understand why this fact hasn’t changed.…

I personally think that the second group are right. “Technology makes life easier and faster.” To begin with, we came back to past (I mean the cave dweller). At that time when they wanted to notice something to another one they used to burn some wood. What do you think about this method? Can you guess what that was? I explain. When one of the people saw the smoke of the wood he/she could understand something is happening. But these days we have a variety of security systems such as; Camera, Alarm, Fingerprint, and sensors. Moreover, the first car (Velo) was made in 1894. Before that the people should move with the animal or on their leg and that’s too hard for them to go to the far places and that took lots of time. But these days mostly each person has his/her own car and she/he can do their work instantly without any waist time. They can go on a trip for vacation or they can see all over the world. In addition, our families used to read books at library to found the answer of their question so they couldn’t improve their knowledge easily. But today you can find your answer on internet only with one click so it’s really easier for us to find a reference and we can improve their knowledge with it. Furthermore, one of the most important things is changing people cultures. The first man used to eat with their hand but today if you eat your meal with your hand all the people will see you and they think you are weird. So as you see the cultures are improved and each nation wants to learn about other cultures so…

Technology is a concrete example of those things that are undergoing a huge change. It came from the Greek words: (1.) Techne, which means "Art, skill, cunning of hand"; and (2.) a prefix "-logia." This only means that technology is a scientific progression and modification of tools, machines, techniques, systems, and methods of organization which helps in solving pre-existing problems of humans.…

For me, I will think that modern technologies really bring us a more convenient life compared to days with simpler technologies. For instance, we can search for anything that we do not sure about through the unlimited network. Works can be done in a short while, problems can be solved easily, and the most important is that things that we will not know easily can be learned from the net too. All these are caused by the modern technologies we had. Besides that, networking help men with busy days not to drift apart from each other. People can easily hold together with the network. They can chat on the net, viewing each one’s web camera and calling from one’s computer to the other for free! This keeps them keeping in touch in their busy days.
