The study of Lukin (2014) has reflected positive and negative influence of Russia’s projects. In addition, Koldunova (2013) described challenges and opportunities that Russia faces in the SCO and Central Asia. Furthermore, Giustozzi (2008) highlighted the main stages of the foundation of the SCO and provided the statistics of the implementation of Russian initiatives.
Despite the fact, that scholars have recently become more interested in the relationships between Russia and the SCO’s members; previous studies on the topic have left several questions unanswered. For instance, it remains largely unclear what are the benefits of membership in the SCO for China and how Russia's ambitions correlate with the ambitions of China to become a leader in the Central Asian region.

Methodology
The main goal of this proposal is to determine Russia's role in the development of the SCO, to evaluate the projects of Russia and to find out what are the main spheres of competition between Russia and China.
Data collection
We decided to use mixed-methods research design that includes both quantitative and qualitative data. This approach will help us to build a complete picture of the subject of study. The research by Sly (2015) provides statistics or quantitative data that will be used in order to proof effectiveness or ineffectiveness of the SCO’s projects.
