From an audience perspective, I knew Andy Dufresne was innocent. Somehow, I identified with Andy and I agreed to his ways in prison. He became a fraudster and yet, I sympathised with him. I was excited when I saw that he could chip the wall to his freedom. I found myself saying a silent prayer for his safe escape.I felt that it would have been terrible if he got caught. A friend of mine once rated the movie as a depressing movie and I strongly disagree because I feel it is a refreshing and reliving movie. The satisfaction one gains from seeing that the wrongly punished is liberated is indescribable. I agree that the length of the movie is a drag but it is worth the watch. Unlike some movies that ends with a tragic tone, this one ends with the birth of a new life and a fresh start.
