A piccolo is obviously a whole lot smaller than the flute. The flute makes lower pitched sounds, while the piccolo makes extremely high pitched tones. The flute has three joints, and the piccolo only has two. These two instruments are made out of different material. The piccolo is a lot harder to play, and it is made for more advanced players. It takes a lot of practice to play the piccolo. The embouchure is a different size on the piccolo, than on the flute. Flutes are best suitable for jazz bands, band concerts, etc. On the other hand, piccolos are more used for solo type of music. It is very difficult to get the piccolo in tune, whereas on the flute,
it is a lot easier. There is an extremely different octave difference between the piccolo and the flute.
Piccolo; highest pitched instrument made
These two instruments are similar as well. The flute and piccolo are both in the category of woodwind instruments. The fingerings are the same on a piccolo and a flute.
The piccolo and flute are similar in some ways, and have different components also. They are both beautiful woodwind instruments that take lots of practice.
