Why is it that when a book gets it’s own movie that there are several differences between the book and the movie? Some people argue that the book is always better than the movie. There is a reason for this. Firstly, in most book to movie adaptations small details are changed or are just not included. Secondly, the movie often takes short cuts and doesn’t touch on certain aspects that were described in the book. Lastly, when reading a book you are free to make your own subtext and fill in the blanks with your imagination. The movie adaptations of books have always lacked the detail that's in the book, some things are completely cut from the movie to maintain a well paced story, and it fills in the gaps for us making the experience less unique.…

The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins) focuses on the main character Katniss and her journey to revolt against the corrupt power system of her government the capitol. The ‘Hunger Games’ is a way of controlling those in the capitols power. Comparison “All I can think is how unjust the whole thing is, the Hunger Games. Why am I hopping around like some trained dog trying to please people I hate?” communicates how Katniss feels the Capitol is corrupt and there ‘hunger games’ is a way to exert there power over those they control. Like Katnisse’s viewpoint “Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch – this is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy” reveals how those oppressed by the capitols power realise that their lives are controlled by the capitol and they have no option…

Katniss was forced to go back into the hunger games with no choice of her own. You can try your hardest to win this game but the capital has all control over the ending result because they make all the decisions of the games environment. Even though she was alienated from her destiny, fortunately, Haymitch and a bunch of secret rebellions had a plan for her to survive the games while she was being secretly protected. In 1896, segregation began when the Supreme Court deemed segregation legal on the terms of “separate but equal”. The truth of the matter was that America was separate, but unequal. People were growing weary of the discrimination, humiliation, and degradation blacks had faced since the day they were stolen from Africa, so, in the 1950’s, the famous Civil Rights Movement began. As one would expect, such a monumental revolution had influential leaders; however, it is to be noted that some leaders had very different points of view, like the staggering contrast between Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X’s ideas.…
Martin Luther King Jr’s dream of equality could have caused change by making people rethink the laws and rights that were set and given in the beginning of the country's existence an example, from the Bill of Rights, of Anti-segregated America’s beginning laws is, …it should not tell people they can get together to protest peacefully… Another example of Anti-segregation could be It should not tell people they can get together to protest peacefully……
Isn’t it insane to believe that one person can have a crucial influence on society, changing people’s interpretation on the world? Around the 1970s African Americans were looked upon differently compared to Caucasian people and began segregating them. The African Americans saw how unfair they were treated, but extremely few spoke up. One essential person during that time was Martin Luther King Jr. He stated his opinion that everyone should be treated equally, no matter what the consequences were. He is one of the many reasons why the world is the way it is now.…
Katniss from the Hunger Games and Theseus from Greek Mythology both have similar roles in each other’s respective stories. They both play leadership roles and people depend on them for their freedom. This essay will compare the two characters with their roles and situations.…
I could never imagine a still segregated world. “I say to you today my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.” Martin Luther King Jr. inspired me to stand up to what I believe in. He believes that everyone should be equal. He believes that although back then people were not equal and people were segregated that one day everything will be fine.…
Since this is a unit that is focused around The Hunger Games, the reading portion of the lessons is rather obvious, as students need to read and comprehend the book to be successful. They are also asked to read various articles and interpret texts in order to respond thoughtfully and appropriately to discussion and writing topics. Since the reading aspect of language was covered, I tried to focus on the importance of incorporating the remaining three language skills – writing, speaking and listening – while creating this unit. I did this by paying special attention to ensuring that discussion and dialogue were abundant to allow students the opportunity to not only share their own ideas but also…
These are the words from the greatest man to live during the 20th century, he has changed America’s society in a way no one else has, ever can or will. Martin Luther King Jr. experienced segregation at a very young age. At the age of six years old, two Caucasian kids who he would play with told him that they can no longer play with him. MLK Jr.’s mom informed him that they attended segregated schools meaning that African Americans and Caucasians wasn’t allowed to integrate. She assured him that they were no better and everyone was equal it was just the country that we live in.…
During the course of the U.S’ history, race inequality has always played a negative role among people of the society. Although there has been many attempts to end segregation in the southern states, it still stands. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr is one of the most remembered Civil Rights’ activist. According to biography.com, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist Minister and a non-violent activist who was born January 15, 1929 Atlanta, Georgia. During his lifetime, he aimed to promote desegregation in the southern states, and fight for racial equality in America. His first stop was Birmingham, AL because it was one of the cities that had most segregation. While he was there, he led several…
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.” (Charles Darwin) This quote relates not only to books written in 1954 but also movies in 2012. The book Lord of the Flies by William Golding follows a group of English boys that survived a plane crash, landing on a deserted island. They are fighting for survival, living through many challenges such as hunting for their food, finding shelter, and signaling for help. Lord of the Flies is similar to the movie The Hunger Games, this movie follows Katniss Everdeen who took her sister's place in the Hunger Games. She quickly adapted to the training that followed the reaping of tributes but struggled with being social,…
